Another REW work in progress.

Hi guys,

I’m new to the forum. I would like to share my experience with REW (great program by the way).

Looking at my charts it is obvious where my problem is. Have some of you seen a spike of such magnitude? Different location of the sub in room didn’t really help.

A FBQ2496 is on its way and I hope it is here this week.

Hi there Bastiaan, and welcome to the Shack.

Yeah, we've seen plots like that before. The BFD should be able to smooth you out, no problem. Good luck and let us know if you have any questions once that thing gets there.

Believe it or not that is not an unusual peak at all. It's very common. I've got a 1124 on the way. There's people with peaks in the 20s and they're not uncommon. When you hear the difference after you get your Behringer you'll know how important it is.

Using the DEQ 2496 in my audio system convinced me what a great deal these digital equalizers are. You'll be glad you bought one.

Mine might not be as high as yours, but you can see from my graph thats its not that uncommon of a spike. In the graph you can also see how effective a BFD can be. It made such a big difference in sound quality from just applying only three filters leaving a almost completely flat frequency response.

Re: Another REW work in progress.

Thanks for the response.
I received my 2496. I had only time for a quick setup and measurement.
But it is exactly like Jerm357 mentioned. I used only two filters and the difference is huge! I finally got some bass, instead of a 36Hz rattle!

What is the next logic step? Just trail and error with manual filter adjustments to get as flat as possible?

It’s probably best not to overdo the filtering trying to get a picture-perfect chart. Ultimately you want things to sound better, not just “look pretty.” Especially avoid ultra-tight filters, say less than 5/60, as I’ve found they can degrade sound quality. You might want to check this recent article of mine for tips on equalizing for improved sound quality.

Regards,
Wayne
