Problem setting target level

When I try to Set Target Level I get the following error:
The SPL using the speaker calibration signal is 23.8 dB, SPL expected was 75dB, check that the AV processor volume, the SPL meter range and the measurement lever are set correctly
What am I doing wrong?

Re: Problem setting target level

As I'm checking the set up procedures up to this point I think the Soundcard calibration has not been done correctly. When I try to check the calibration I don't get a flat curve, I get the came curve that was generated initially?

Don't really know what this means?

Do you have the right channel out connected to the right channel in to the soundcard.

Best to also Clear the calibration file with the REW pulldown (even though you don't have one yet). Then stop and restart the program and try again with the soundcard calibration.

Before you tried to set the target level, were you successful with setting the measurement level and then setting the input volume level and then calibrating the spl meter? these of course must be done first.

Re: Problem setting target level

I have right out to right in. Let me try and explain again. When I calibrated theSoundcard I got a curve like it shows in the REW Help with a rolled off bass and a high end with a ripple. I loaded the SC calibration file. Help then describes how to check the that calibration was successful by running Automatic measurement again. When I do that instead of getting a flat line like the red line I get the same curve as the original curve. Is that a better description?

Yep. Hopefully you still have the cable short from input to output still installed and you're using the same (right) channel in the Automatic measurement?

If so, then I can't think of anything that would cause the measurement not to show perfectly flat. You're simply measuring a piece of wire. The soundcards cal file should inversly compensate for its shortcomings and result in a perfect response....

Re: Problem setting target level

Did you select a channel (tab) other than the soundcard channel? Soundcard cal is not applied to the soundcard channel.

Re: Problem setting target level

I am unable to complete the Soundcard calibration. After I have run Calibrate,
saved the calibration file, the file is loaded, and I go to check the calibration
by running Automatic measurement with the soundcard input connected to the output
I get a dialogue box that says: There are already measurements for this channel,
to continue the measurements must be Removed.

If you Cancel the existing measurements will be kept.

Itappears the calibration file has not been saved or is not loaded. I see the file
in the folder I saved it in. Any ideas?

Re: Problem setting target level

I guess you called it something like SoundCardCal.cal

When you start REW does it say that this named calibration file is loaded?

If not, when you pull down Soundcard and select Load calibration data, does it say it's loading the file after you point to the file in the location where you store it? Try Clearing and loading and verify that it loads the file.

Re: Problem setting target level

I didn't put the .cal on the end of the file. I think this will get me to the next step. Thanx.

Before checking the calibration click on the "Left" channel tab, otherwise you are just making another measurement on the soundcard channel (hence the warning you are about to overwrite the last measurement you made).

You don't need to add ".cal" on the filename, REW does it for you if you omit it.
