trouble setting up input

I can't get a reading on the large spl when setting up the input. I am using the default 75dbs for the reading in set input button.
Using a RS into a MOTU 1224 PCI system. Or should I be using a mic for room analysis? I have no need for BFD or a subwoofer at this time.
I have the input set for OSX core audio and the PCI card driver is enabling 8 channles in and out via the AUdio/midi (OSX). The output is set up for REW. I can get a measurement w/ pink noise ouput but nothing is registering for the input.
Any help?

BTW, is there a RT60 to be implemented anythime soon?

Tonio

Hi Tonio... I'll welcome you to the Shack, but I'll have to let someone else help you with the problem you are experiencing. Someone should be to the rescue soon. Welcome aboard!

Funny, we were thinking of banning him from the site for his avatar....

I would think that if the REW software was recognizing your card in the input list (choose device box) and you're able to select it, and then you also select the LINE_IN pull down directly below that, then the RS meter should show up in the dBSPL indiction. REW usually is for stereo (left/right) systems and not multi-line systems. So, I don't know really......

The RS meter is simply a mic with a line out jack. If you feed this into the correct channel of the MOTU patch and you select the two correct inputs in REW I suggested above, it should work.

Perhaps John M (moderator and author of REW software here) can comment on whether REW recognizes the multichannel MOTU system or not?

The only reverb time decay graphs available in REW are the Low Frequency Spectral Decay graphs. Again, perhaps John might comment there...

Ignore comments like these T... they are just jealous because they don't have an avatar or they don't have one that looks as good. It's a conspriacy! You gotta really watch these guys some times.

Re: trouble setting up input

I guess you have set the MOTU as the default soundcard in the Audio/Midi tool? Unfortunately I don't have an OSX platform to test on, so can't offer a lot of help. One of the other Mac users might have something more constructive to offer. In the meantime you should find the internal soundcard gives good results if you want to try that - you might find that the input is already coming from the internal card even though the output is via the MOTU.

RT60 is on the list to be added, but not near the top, sorry.

Yes I have the MOTu driver set up in OSX audio/midi and enabled. As per the instruction you set the device as OSX a/d, but no actual line(s) is accessed in the line IN tab. Which is what I have.
My MOTU driver takes over(Overrides) OSX sound card, but I suppose I could use the MB soundcard by disableing it Oy
I haven't deal with 16 bit in a long time. Maybe thats where all the rca>1/8' adapters are associated? hmm
where did I stash those?

Thanks for the help . I'll be back (Arnie's Terminator impression)
