Question about MIDI interface...

I have the DSP1124P. I purchaced the M-Audio UNO to conect between the computer and 1124's MIDI conections.

There is an input and an output MIDI connection on the back of the 1124. I'm assuming that I need to connect one of the UNO's MIDI conectors to the input, and the other to the output......correct?

If this is so, is there an adapter that I need to use for the output connection? Both of the UNO's MIDI conectors are male's, and the 1124's connectors are 1 male and 1 female.

I've looked for an adapter, and can't seem to find one, so I thought I'd ask the experts here.

Thanks,
Nick

Re: Question about MIDI interface...

Most people simply use a USB to Midi interface connected from their PC like this:

I believe a standard cable is the EDIROL UM-1X USB-MIDI Interface. Everyone sells it...

Be sure the USB and midi connectors are hooked up when you start REW, so its recognized.

My understanding is that the usb/midi cable is marked IN and OUT, so the Midi OUT on the cable would connect to the BFD Midi IN and the opposite for the other.

Correct. Except the 1124's output is a male connection, and both of the UNO's and the UM-1X's MIDI contector are males. So male to male dosent hook up. I'm trying to figure out how people are hooking that up.

Re: Question about MIDI interface...

You only need the Uno out connected to the BFD in, REW doesn't make any use of info back from the BFD (not that there is much).

Thats what I needed to know. I was under the impression that both connectors needed to be hooked up, and couldn't figure out how to make that work.

Thanks John!

Re: Question about MIDI interface...

Ahh great, thanks John. I never use the midi myself, so I was relying on memory of what others have said. I'll store that info for the next time

Re: Question about MIDI interface...

On my setup the UNO is connected directly to the 1124P midi in without an adapter. REW works great with the UNO and 1124 if it has the correct version firmware.

Hi all,
I've been around for a couple of weeks atracted by the high potential of BFD/REW into a 2.1 stereo setup. Now, my BFD is doing a fine job and want to express my thanks to all of you that were put all these things togheter (I will open a new thread to explain how BFD was integrated in my system).

Everything was going smooth, like in tutorial, except sending data to EQ: because I put MIDI IN cable jack into the BFD MIDI IN socket. Just after I remembered (from some10 years old MIDI jam sessions) what Brucek explained above I was able to send data using MIDI interface. So, I propose to include the quoted phrase in the Help of the next release of REW.

Best regards,
Dorin

Re: Question about MIDI interface...

Thanks a lot, John!
I'm just playing with the new version of REW and see the modified help about the midi connections. All around, an amazingly good piece of software, thank you again!
