how low can the rew/bfd go?

hello, first post. been reading up for a couple days. i am interested in implementing the rew. i just purchased 2 svs 16-46's and my room is somewhat small. if i play the system at volumes which the very low end is audible and tactile the midbass levels destroy all detail whatsovever. so my question is can the rew/bfd boost frequencies BELOW 20hz while i cut the frequencies @ 40 and 80hz in order to get a full range balance of what these subs are supposed to be capable of? thank you so much and i look forward to using this great system.

Welcome to the Forum!

The BFD can affect frequencies below 20 Hz, but that’s the lowest frequency you can set a filter for. To get action below 20 Hz would require a filter with a broad bandwidth.

You can get essentially the same effect of boosting down low by cutting the upper frequencies.

Regards,
Wayne

Re: how low can the rew/bfd go?

thank you wayne, i think i understand. for now i think that is essentially what i am doing with just the av processor level controls. i calibrated everything to even and then dialed down the m/c/s and left the sub level "as is" so the sub frequency is "boosted". it sounds better than even calibration across the board but spl meter still shows huge peakes @ 40 and 80 hz which i think is still hurting the detail and extension perception of the lowest frequencies. forgive me if this is a stupid question, but, are the filters restricted to 20hz by the rew or by the behringer 1124?

REW is simply a PC based tool used to measure the response of a speaker. It's used to obtain filter recommendations for equalizers. REW will measure as low as the microphone you are using.

A BFD 1124 has a filter center frequency limit of 20Hz.

I believe there are a few pro-audio analog parametrics that allow you to center filters below 20 Hz, but they are going to cost you way more than the BFD.

The Rane PEQ-17 can EQ down to 10hz. It's an analog, mono, 5 band parametric design. You can pick them up for less than $200 on ebay sometimes. Got mine for less than $140.
