Need soundcard calibration help

Hi everyone

I joined the Home Theater Shack this weekend and also downloaded the Room EQ Wizard. I am very impressed with the REW, but I am stuck already. Trying to calibrate the soundcard, but I can't get the input volume to move from -99. The output works fine, but the input does not. Not sure what information you need from me in order to assist, so I will list what I know.

Computer: Gateway descktop
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
Sound Card: Turtle Beach Riverea

I have tried changing a few of the different settings, but I can't seem to make it work. I am probably doing something dumb - any ideas.

Dan

Re: Need soundcard calibration help

Are you using stereo plugs on both the line-out and line-in jacks of the soundcard for your loopback cable when performing the soundcard calibration?

Re: Need soundcard calibration help

Have you tried adjusting the input level using Windows rather than REW's mixer? I know that's a bit different on Vista than XP and I'm not that familiar with it, but I believe it's still possible...

Re: Need soundcard calibration help

Thanks for the reply.

Is a stereo audio cable the correct one to use.

I have the "line in" volume all the way up in both Windows and the sound card control panel.

I also ran a test just to make sure that the "line in" to the sound card was working. I connected a source (portable DVD player) to the line level input of the sound card and played music through my stereo using the front speaker out of the sound card.

I also know that the 1 kHz tone is working because I heard it through my stereo.

Here is what I know.
- The "line in" will play music through the "line out".
- The output of the sound card is playing the 1 kHz tone during measure.

Also, I had it working (sort of) last night, but lost the magic touch. The calibration curve looked like it was getting feedback, so I tried varios settings. If I changed something that is causing the problem, I do not know what it is.

Any ideas.

I will post views of the various settings if someone can tell me how to do this.

Dan

Thanks for your help

See here. I'd like to see the Settings page.

Do you have the soundcard selected in the INPUT DEVICE in the settings page, or if you have it as the Default device, do you have the soundcard selected in Windows as Default (an not an internal card).

Re: Need soundcard calibration help

I attached a word document showing various screen shots. I hope the attachments work and that you can read them.

Please let me know if there is a better way to show these various settings.

Sincerely

Dan

Re: Need soundcard calibration help

I made a little progress. I now have the input volume level working, but it is too low. At least it is not at -99 like it was before. I attached another file showing the new settings.

Re: Need soundcard calibration help

I was able to get a calibration curve, but I think I still have set up problems.
The good thing is I am making progress.

I'll let you know what progress I am making.
