Samsung PCJ612R crt coolant change

I just recently found out that the coolant in my PCJ612R needs to be replaced. Just my luck right after Christmas. I paid the tv repairman $80 to tell me that it would be $600 to do it.

So I've been looking around the web came across a few forums. I figure I'm pretty handy, It looks like something I might be able to do.

My question is once I remove the CRTs clean everything, change the coolant, and reinstall them. What are the chances that I will have to adjust the convergence, and if so how do I get to that menu and is it something a DIY guy can do. If I don't move the centering rings will I still have to adjust the convergence?

$600 is absurd.

If you choose to DIY, get a service manual and be very careful. You will need to do alignment including convergence.

I would look for another servicer who will do it at a reasonable rate.

Typically, the blue and maybe the green need coolant changes. The red rarely, if ever needs it. It is useful to leave one CRT alone anyway to have a reference for alignment when done.

Thanks a lot for your reply, the convergence thing makes me a little nervous. So I did just as you suggested. I called around and found a shop that would do the blue and green and the convergence for $225, if I delivered it. So I think that is what I am going to do. I figured for the coolant alone it was going to cost me about $40 bucks not to mention my time, and if I didn't break anything while I was doing it myself. He said he would need it for over a week though to check for leaks and do the convergence. Does that seem normal?

That is more reasonable. Be sure to ask them to clean the mirror and lenses while they are in the set, if they don't routinely. They usually need it and it make a big difference.

My rate is $225 in the shop for this for labor, plus parts.
