Your could completely finish the boxes and have 1/4 glass cut for the top and just put tiny clear silicon feet on it so it doesn't slide.

Or a thin piece of butchers block counter top ( you can get as thin as 3/4 ). Sand and stain to taste and leave it removable. With a router you could make a jig and counter sink it about 1/4" so that the top of the box sits inside of the top.

Idk know your decor so it's tough to make off hand suggestions.

Thanks ALMFamily!

Jstslamd - i dont really have a decor up there. Pretty basic right now. I do plan on building a new tv stand/equipment rack out of some walnut and maple. Thought about a 4" "picture frame" of maple stock and inlay some walnut. I like your idea of butcher block and recessing it to fit over the sub a little. The glass idea is good to, but the seams of the vinyl would be noticeable i think.

Thanks for the ideas,
Joe

That looks really nice Jstslamd

Would you mind sharing the info with me, I might be able to use this on a project of mine.

It's a company named Bally block company. They are a little pricey but VERY nice product. If you don't want to spend that much Ikea sells a bunch of tops that are very nice for the price. Good luck

Re: Joe's dual Q18 build thread

Well I finally was able to get the second box done and installed in its place over the weekend. I still don't have the granite, but am still undecided on that as my final choice for the tops. Either way, they are sounding pretty good.

I will hopefully have some graphs in another week or two once my CM-140, FBQ, and cables come in. I was going to go with one of the mic options from Cross-Spectrum, but thought the CM-140 verified+ was a little easier and cheaper, but I will find out. Any one know how low those are good to? I think I heard something 5-10hz, but I can't recall exactly.

Thanks everyone for the help and following my build!! I am sure I will have plenty of questions once I start down the REW path!!

Joe

Re: Joe's dual Q18 build thread

Is that area in front of the windows just a bay off the main room or is that how wide the room is?
That area is compact. Those subs will benefit from the close set mains too I believe. Those Q18s may end up bringing down that venetian blind in time.
Look out when you turn those babies up!

They look real good there. Looking forward to hearing what you think of them for sure.

And looking forward to the graphs too.
