This is my intention for my dual 15" RL-p in a sealed config.
2 - D4 RL-p's in a box that stands 46" tall, and 22" by 22" wide.
I'm new to sketch-up, but was wondering about your opinions,
I'll be using my old Adire Audio ADA-1200 to drive it wired for a combined 4 ohm load.
The enclosure will have two internal braces with approx 6" space between each brace, and the front and rear baffles will be tied together with 1/2" dowels to elliminate resonance.
The sketch doesn't show it (again, I'm new to sketch-up), but all walls are to be doubled up 3/4" mdf, including the front baffle which the drivers will be mounted. I intend to recess mount the drivers approx 1/4" in for aesthetics mostly, and the ADA-1200 will sit on the back at a convenient height.
on the plinth, the total height will be approx 49"
Here it is with the drivers installed.
Both v/c's are in series per driver for 8 ohms each.
a pair of terminals on the rear are for the top driver and a second pair are for the bottom driver.
It looks great all finished! Job well done, bent. You've built yourself a great looking unique sub. If it sounds as good as it looks, you'll be in bass-heavy heaven in no time.
I'll get it powered up this weekend, do some placement exercises, run it for a few hours (One RL-p is un-used, one is a few years old). then look at test sweeps and measurements. Barely had time to finish the subwoofer - life has a habit of getting in the way.
I'm also in the middle of building a pair of Zaph's B3S multimedia monitors, 'cept mine are B3N's (Solen had no B3s's).
I'm going to need a cheap 6" to 8" subwoofer driver to go with these too.
Any ideas for the small sub? Maybe a little ported one with a plate amp? I hope we'll be seeing a thread for it too. As for the measurements, I can wait, I'm more interested in the pictures, which you've delivered!
I hope you enjoy your duals as much as I do mine. I broke the cabinet size rules with two drivers, so I disconnected one and blocked the driver port and two passive radiator ports. I didn't like the sound at all so I put the second driver and the other two passives in and it came out awesome. This proves all designs don't have to be textbook to sound great! How many cubes to you have? I've got about 5.
I'm anxious to see your results!
Mike
btw....I think I broke the seals on my 5 ft x 6 ft plate glass double pane living room window with my subs, so keep an eye on the fishies.....
no measurements, but I gotta say I'm more impressed with the new dual sealed version than single ported version.
Don't get me wrong, the ported unit was phenominal, but this seems to respond better to tweaking, ( can only guess it can better use it's power and the cushion of air behind it that only a sealed box allows.)
My first tests showed no bass at all, in spite of lots of cone motion (obvious problem - 5hz sweeps confirmed it, the drivers were out-of phase...)
fixed in a jiffy and has been in service for a week now.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
