Sony KF-60DX100 menu keeps popping up on screen

I have a Sony KF-60DX100 that has been working flawless for years now but just last night while watching a blu-ray the menu box on the TV started to pop up on the screen all the time, I hit the menu button on the remote and it goes away only to return again and again. Some time it stays gone for a few minutes and then some time it keeps popping up and some time it will not go away for a few minutes. I know this set is old but it has worked great for me all these years and I am looking into getting a new real 1080p set over the Christmas. Anyone have any idea what it might be, I removed the battery from the remote to see if the remote was transmitting the signal without me touching the button no good I even covered the remote sensor on the TV to see if interference might be the cause again no luck. The TV is the only thing that is in this room all the other components are in a closet in the next room and I have a IF eye in front of the TV that works the other stuff in the closet.

I assume from your wording that this is the TV menu and not the Blu Ray player menu. Bad tactile switch on the control panel? Try pressing the control panel buttons repeatedly. This will sometimes clear a sticky switch.

Yes on the TV menu, I have tried pressing all buttons on both the remote and the front panel of the TV to make sure they are not sticking but no luck, still get menu keeps flashing on and off and one time I hit the channel button up and it kept going through the number for a few minutes.
