| Re: RL-P18 Ported Subwoofer Build - Jan 2009 Hi guys, thanks for the comments - it really makes all the hard work worth it when other people appreciate your efforts! Kleppa : The measurements in MM are 1143mm Tall, 635mm wide and 914mm deep. Judging from all the MDF I used (to the nearest sheet), it weights 160 Kilos conservatively. I did around 15 iterations of the port calculation until it was spot on. I think the length of the port was roughly 614mm but I need to check on that. For my setup, this is overkill, but the effect is incredible; it provides ridiculous extension and the intensity of both films and music is on a different level. I think I could comfortably run one of these subs off each channel of the J.2500; I'm tempted to build another one! Any questions about your build? I'd love to help and try and give some advice back having received so much help from more experience forum members & DIY sub builders! Ed | ||||

| Re: RL-P18 Ported Subwoofer Build - Jan 2009 I really appreciate that, the plan is to start building at the end of this summer. I can't really imagine how a 18" sub feels like, the only sub I have ever had is a 10" computer subwoofer. As for the ports I haven't decided yet. 2x6" or 1x8". I will have to see ![]() What is the cut-off for the sub in your setup, which frequencies does it play? | ||||

| Re: RL-P18 Ported Subwoofer Build - Jan 2009 Sounds good to me! An 18 inch with a good amp sounds ridiculously good; I have a Reckhorn B1 Subwoofer Management system between the pre-out of my consumer preamp and the input of the J2500 power amplifier. The cutoff filter is set to 12hz, and I've been playing test tones down to 8hz without any problems. I don't like pushing the system for the sake of it, as I hate the sound of a clipping amplifier or bottoming-out driver, along with the damage associated with it! I need to do a frequency response curve soon, so I'm going to go to the studio and borrow some kit to do that over the summer. Good luck with your build, I can't wait to see how it goes. Ed | ||||

| Re: RL-P18 Ported Subwoofer Build - Jan 2009 I love the shot next to the couch!! The shape and build look like a commercial bookshelf speaker on steroids!!! I looks like a doll house couch next to a reg sied speaker. I thought my sub was big... ![]() | ||||

| Re: RL-P18 Ported Subwoofer Build - Jan 2009 Well, it's time for me to start building ![]() The only think i'm wondering about is which amp I should use. The T.amp TA2400 might be a litte overkill, maybe the TA1400 or even the TA1050 bridged could do the job? How many watt do you think the RL-p 18" can take in a 500l box? | ||||
