Some pics from my RL-P18 build

I built my first diy sub for home use a couple months ago. I really appreciated all the pics that other people would post, so I thought I'd return the favor. I know it helps some people brainstorm for their own projects. Most of my audio knowledge comes from the 12volt side, so considering my inexperience with home theater, I ended up really happy with the sound. The Soundsplinter 18 is very nice.

That's a big sub. What is the net volume of the cabinet and the tuning frequency? I'll guess the RLp-18 is dual 2 ohm coils?

My final internal volume is somewhere right around 13cu. ft. The tune is about 18hz. Yep its the dual 2 ohm model.

internal dimensions: 23"x23"x46.5"
ports: 4 4"x28"

I haven't really taken any measurements yet. I still need to familiarize myself with REW and figure out how to properly use the rs meter I have. but I can say I'm pretty sure I cracked some of the drywall around our air ducts and above a door frame. luckily my landlords don't really seem to know much about the house...

I'd say its somewhere just under 275lbs. maybe 250, or between there. its pretty easy to move around with a handtruck because of the low center of gravity, but I still wouldn't want to try moving it more than a few feet by myself.

WOW, nice build!!! That is one MONSTER!!! I wouldn't be able to use something that big (WAF - she would not agree to something that big). Bet is sounds awesome. Do you plan on putting it on wheels until you find the perfect spot to place it? It would be hard for experimental moving/placement. Nice set of build pics also, thanks for sharing!

powered by a 500watt bash amp from PE. im curious what it would sound like with double or triple the power but i'll leave that for much later, because i'm loving it just the way it is. Im hearing parts of movies i never knew existed. Sometimes its actually startling.

no, no plans to put it on wheels. it sounds fine just where it is. if you walk around certain areas of the house while its playing it can be pretty overwhelming so i dont really want to put it in a corner like i've had to with some smaller subs. I'm liking it kind of out in the open with the rear ports just slightly angled toward the wall. maybe someday i'll feel like comparing a bunch of placements with war of the worlds goin... but for now im too happy to mess with it.

13 cubes, 18Hz tune, that thing must be very satisfying to listen to. And as a few have already mentioned, you did a really nice job on the enclosure. For a huge box, it's simple and unobtrusive, and looks great. I actually really like the way you did the ports. Don't know if there are pros/cons to doing multiple bent tubes like that, but there's something cool and industrial about the design that I like.

Oh, in your final pic, are all 3 of those displays set up for gaming? I've been dying to try something like this:

Thanks for the compliments. The TV's shown in the last picture are set up for gaming, each one had a PS3 connected so my 2 roommates and i could play Call of Duty online. Its not quite as cool as the setup in your photo, but playing in the same room on the same team with friends is pretty sweet.

That must have been a blast. A friend of mine had a Halo party a year or two ago, where everyone brought their Xbox over and connected it to one of his TVs and their home network, and while we didn't have our own screens, each team did, and having your enemies just a room or two over so you could hear their swearing when they died was a lot of fun.
