Hmmm, 2x4's and sheetrock -- just to the right 260L volume so a 6" dia PVC port could tune it to 14 Hz? Something to consider.

The space is under the stairs.

260L is way too small for this driver, especially when tuned to 14 Hz. I would look at something like 550-600L instead.

Thanks for the reply Ilkka! I just read the "IB makeover.........." thread to get back up to speed a little. So 10" dia sonotube for ports & 5/8" sheetrock.

As an excuse I'll have to say that I am on a trip at my parents place in Shell Point and away from any modeling software -- and I have been known to drink a martini...

Yes you are right. Was just thinking out loud in response to initial questions & ideas. So tempted to hijack the "IB makeover.........." thread but I won't. I hate to start a new thread until I decide on a definite course of action. But I will try to leave this thread alone and let it get back on topic to just the SoundSplinter RL-p18 driver.

Hey... maybe that new thread can help you decide that definite course of action. You can always reserve the first few posts for later.

10" port will be too long. 600L, ~13 Hz tune, 8x30" port looks good to me.

What size box would be needed for this driver in a sealed app. for HT use?

Just got mine today.

Sitting on top of my current subwoofer, a Adire Tempest vented.

Re: NEW Premium Series 18" Driver - SoundSplinter Unleashes the Beast!

Steve ... I looked at the SS 18" as an LLT and shelf was only down 4dB from reference.
Isn't that too high considering room gain? Is the higher Q responsible for that?
My PA P.Audio 18" shelf is -15dB from reference and -10dB from 80hz.
I suggest everyone read or re-read your initial LLT post. http://www.hometheatershack.com/foru...explained.html
BTW, thanks for personal help. Saved me from getting kicked out of the house having two subs.

I'm sure that selling unnecessary female relatives is perfectly okay Down Under.

But sell the girlfriend? Are you mad?

Somebody has to help you carry the finished sub!

You just can't put a wise head on young shoulders.

selling the girlfriend seems quite resonalble for this driver, having owned one (The driver, not the girlfriend) for several months now I must say it was worth getting rid of my wife for!! O.K. I didn't really get rid of the wife, she loves good sound too, besides he can always find one of his mates to help carry the sub!

I wish my girlfriend would help me carry my subs around Mind you looking at that driver i think it would probably be bigger than her....

Probably wouldn't make as much noise though

Chrisbee have you ever been to Australia?

Of course i would not sell my girl friend for a sub

Nah just kidding it is a very nice sub though

Would sound better in an LLT than an IB

Put simply, the RL-p18 is a more versatile driver than the RL-s15 as it currently stands. The RL-s15 demands more power and is limited to sealed and IB enclosures for optimal performance. The RL-p18 can be implemented in sealed, vented, or IB alignments, and can operate well with considerably less power (or "cheaper" power, as it were, since it sports a dual voice coil which can be wired for lower impedance loads).

Go Sound Splinter Go

These drivers are grrreat for EBS (LLT,McDLT what ever you may call EBS), the bug has bitten. RLp 15's next its RLp18's. That is correct.

Mike, make sure you have em ready.

There is no active work being done on a new 15" driver at this time. Ultimately, I aim to offer a revised version of the RL-s15, featuring a lower impedance coil option, improved efficiency and lower Q. This is not something that is currently lined up for production, and therefore I do not wish to speculate on lead time.

That is great news indeed! What with the insane price for a LMS from Audiopulse a more attractively priced LMS based subwoofer would be pure gold. The price hasnt been that bad at all for the current RLs though the high Qts has been a huge problem for most of us non-car audio guys.
