Whats your favorite tune for an RL-P15?

Please post your tune for your RL-P 15 and why you chose it. I would like to see how low every one is tuning these things. I choose the 17hz tune because I am using it in a very small room and figured that room gain would be a big help so there was no need to tune much lower.

Mine might as well be 5Hz... flat to 10Hz is all I'm able to measure but I'm sure it is reasonable at 5Hz.

Sonnie, when you gonna get those 4 monsters up in the ceiling?

My favorite tune for my RL-p15 is the Telarc recording of the 1812 overture when the cannons go off!

For the D2, I find a modeled 15.5hz tuning (which equates to a real world tuning of ~14.3hz) looks to give the most balanced performance

Agreeded, I have since changed my tune from 17hz to 15.45hz and have experienced better SQ. I also did not notice a loss of over all output from lowering the the tune this much.

Steve, I see you say this all the time, but what kind of modeling are you doing where the "real world" tuning comes out to be ~1Hz lower than the simulated? Mine came out to be about the same.

How would/do you test it?

I believe you used a molded plastic port and took half the flare radius into account when calculating port length. That's the "proper" way of doing it, but I recommend port lengths without including the flares, so then when the roundovers are added, the tune is a bit lower. I do this because a slightly lower tune is a good thing and the less calculations I have to do the better.

Sonnie, you can test what the actual tune of a sub comes out to be by taking a close mic FR sweep of the driver. Basically you set up the mic about 3" back from the center of the driver and do a FR sweep so that the port output doesn't get to contribute in the measurement. The response should look similar to a sealed response with a noticable temporary dip at the tuning frequency, as the driver in a ported subwoofer moves the least when it is directly coupled with the air in the port. Below that there will be a slight resurgence and then ultimately the rolloff.

That explains it.

Re: Whats your favorite tune for an RL-P15?

I have the RL-P15 D2 and I would like to make it 300 Liters which I believe would make the sonotube about 60 inches tall. What would the 6 inch port length be to get the lowest tune. I tried to use winisd and that other excel file but I do not know how to use these tools. Can you help me?

This is based on 300L tuned to 14hz.
