| My Subwoofer Design Hi All, After reading many threads about the SoundSplinter drivers I've decided to join the elite club and build a high performance subwoofer. I've currently have the B&W 803D Floorstanding speakers for fronts and the HTM2D for Centre. I've previously been testing the Velodyne DD Series subwoofers, specifically the 15" and 18" versions. http://www.velodyne.com/velodyne/pro...italDrive.html Here in Australia, they are not cheap. DD15 is about $5.6k and DD18 is $6.6k I like the idea of a sealed subwoofer, no port noise and does not require a large amount of tuning. I am wanting to build something with a Frequency Responce that goes down to around 15hz. At first I thought the RL-P18 would be great, but reading some designs, it seems it requires a LARGE enclosure (Most being ported designs too). I would not want to build anything with an enclosure size bigger then Cabinet (H/W/D): 25"x25"x25" giving about 9 cubic feet to play with. I'm just wondering on the SS website, the says for the 15" Optimal Home: 4.6 cu ft net volume sealed What is the frequency responce? Can someone assist on a good size enclosure to get down to 15hz? Another option is to build a dual sealed 15" or 18"...... For power, I was planning on using a either: 1. Crown Audio XTi4000, 2x1200Watts in 4ohms, Is this too much power? Will 2x500Watts or 2x800Watts in 4ohms do the job? 2. Another power option is Redgum Audio Plate Amplifiers: http://www.redgumaudio.com/store/Sub_Amp_Plates.html RGSW5 is 1x 700watts in 4ohms RGSW6 is 1x 1100watts in 4ohms Being only a single channel, this would then mean I would splice the cable from 2 to 4 for the dual voice coils yeah? I'm keen to order so any input would be great!! Thanks Nick. | |||

| Re: My Subwoofer Design With your requirements, I might would suggest two Rl-p 15s, firing opposite from each other. Kind of like this build: http://www.htguide.com/forum/showpos...6&postcount=74 | |||

| Re: My Subwoofer Design Nick, can you fit an IB design at your place Reason I suggest is it will give you best performance (yes, better than DD18) for less than half the money and is a relatively easy and stealth diy Say twin Ficar Q18s and an SGR501 subamp and you'd have all the bass you'd ever dreamed of and it would integrate seamlessly to your 803D in 2ch and HT - trust me you know I've been there ![]() Cheers Norpus | |||
