Can I repair my RL-P 15"

I saw once now that someone had to repair a driver they destroyed. Being as nobody else has mentioned it I'm wondering if this is possible. With no rumble filter and a tune of 18hz I'm concerned.

One thing I should say is I know I need a BFD. After using the DEQ 2496 I'm sure that piece is just what I need. We have a horrible room mode here.

What amplifier are you using? What material do you normally listen to? You will have to deliver a lot of power, most likely at a frequency below the tuning frequency to damage that driver.

Re: Can I repair my RL-P 15"

The amplifier is the EP 2500 I just received a few days ago. That sub is for HT only.

It would seem hitting a frequency below 18hz would be easy. I don't know how fast these subs unload but I think better get the BFD soon.

I guarantee you I'm working that RL-P hard. I'm two inches from building a second sub cause I'd much rather have way over kill than not quite enough.

If the parts are available then a repair can be done.
IIRC, you un-solder the tinsels, remove all of the surround, carefully clear the spider (both, in an RL-p's case), remove the cone/spider/surround/former-voicecoil as one unit, clean glue surfaces, apply new glue everywhere you've removed glue, shim the new former in the gap (gets pretty tricky with all those spiders) and carefully center the spiders and surround and let the glue set. Wrap foil around the rear of the cone (to prevent solder burns) and solder the new tinsels into place. Remove shims and hope she doesn't scrape.

Re: Can I repair my RL-P 15"

Thanks. Yes 2 spiders may make things more difficult. Last time I put surrounds on drivers I think I put a bass signal through the driver to get it aligned. Seems like this would work with one of these monsters as well.

I wonder how the factory does it?
