It's a good thing you noticed the DCX vs the FBQ - I had no idea there were 2 "2496".. So I'll go for the DCX then!

Front baffle will be double (2x 19mm) - same with the rear. The rest will be 19mm.. Think that will do?
That's okay. Of course it's preferred to use some internal bracing too.

And yes - I'll be using a 8" port. Are there any pro/cons having one 8" vs 2x 6" ports?
Two 6" ports will give you slightly more port area, but of course then they have to be slightly longer. If you're heading for the 23 Hz tune, the 8" port should be around 65 cm long; 70 cm if using a port with trumpet heads (recommended). Two 6" ports should be 80 cm / 84 cm, correspondingly.

Edit: And one last thing - is it possible to 'control' more than one subwoofer on the DCX2496 ? (I want to use both my Rlp15" LLT and the new Rlp18")
Yes, it can control up to 6 subwoofers.

Re: 2 x RLp-18" - SPL Nirvana (No LLT)

A start:

Box 1: We started with my box unfortunately. The MDF fractured 2-3 places (see picture 2)

Fractured MDF. Hope it will turn out ok if I polish it.

Box 2: (Well, we got some experience after box1 - so box2 turned out 100%)

Der Drillmeister (my brother. He's going to have one of the boxes)

Here's a couple of materials/bracings that will be on the box.

This is how the driver will be mounted eventually (because of the angle it looks like the driver is bigger than the box, but it's not. Hehe)

At least it's a start! Next on the program is to start working on the bracing, mounting the 8" pipe etc. The front and back will be 2x19mm MDF. I might add an extra layer of 12mm MDF on the rest of the box (depending on if im happy with the bracing I do).

Not going as fast as planned.. Did something today though:
**** MDF dust!

Progress so far:

Hoping to finish the sub tomorrow, except the finish. I won't put the sub in my room until I get a finish on it (If I do put it in my room, it will just stay there without a finish for ages:P )

From the phonebook in the pictures I'm guessing you're south western Norway, right? Bergen? I'd love to audition this beast when you're done with it.... I'm a Stavanger man myself.

Im closer than you think - just over the sea (Karmøy).

And of course you are welcome to listen to it (or.. them.. since I will be using one LLT RLp15", this RLp18" and a MBM12... all connected to a DCX2496 ).

Edit: I see you got a RLp15" going on yourself, you'll love it

Some of the internal bracing:

Inner port opening (still not 100%)

Some alleviation:

If someone is looking at this thread/pictures - and think "Hm... that guy doesn't have enough bracing" - let me know! Im not certain if I have enough bracing in the box tbh Or if the holes in the bracing is big enough for the air to flow the way it should.

That bracing looks like it should be enough to me... assuming it's all glued up nice and tight I think you'll be fine. The one thing I might do is to add a few holes in the bracing just above the port, since it looks like there isn't much room for the air to move around up there except the thin hole around the port itself, which might possibly cause some whistling... maybe.

Re: 2 x RLp-18" - SPL Nirvana (No LLT)

Hm.. I thought I used identical wires like I did on my last sub (4mm²) - but it seems that my new sub is wired with only 2.5mm².. Is that too small for a brute like the Rlp18" ? Sub is pretty much complete - so im just wondering if there is any point in changing wires.

Edit: Sub works 100%!

Still some work remains And I won't be able to get a Behringer DCX2496 before mid-april

Re: 2 x RLp-18" - SPL Nirvana (No LLT)

I finally got a finish on the cute little box:

The sub looks a bit better than it does on the picture.. since I did one more layer of black painting and one more layer on the cherry finish since then.

And I still need to make a grill for it.

Looks good Egil... but how does it sound!? I didn't check your BFD thread, but do you have everything up and running now? Are both subs finished, or just the one you are using? Sorry, lots of questions, I just want to know how it turned out.

Well - that one looks better than any of mine have turned out (bare mdf =P ) but looks like it could use some touchup work. =X

How do they sound? I imagine it's pretty beastly with all that power behind it. Got them to xmax yet with music?
