RL-S 15"

Well, I want a new sub... right now I have one tc-10oem sealed, and it sounds really really tight and beautiful, but at loud volume, it can't keep up with the speakers i got(b&w 685), so I am considering the rl-s 15" in a 10cu.ft sealed box, I have 2krms @4ohm to work with.

any thought?

What would you be using it for? HT and music or strictly music?

Sound Splinter recommends 10 cu ft net volume sealed. It should be a good combination.

is it any better than the rl-p 18"? what advantage it got over the rlp 18?

Arrow Re: RL-S 15"

In terms of displacement the two drivers are similar, however the RL-s15 utilizes the variable density voicecoil which will aid in producing constant force throughout the entire stroke of the driver, thereby resulting in cleaner overall output with less distortion. Unfortunately, it's a moot point at this time, as the RL-s15 is currently out of stock and as my supplier is going through a restructuring, it will be a couple of weeks before any production is put back into motion.

Furthermore, as the RL-s Series drivers have been slow sellers, in conjunction with (and partly on account of I'm sure) the fact that they carry such a high Q and require such a large amount of power at a relatively high impedance level, I do not plan to restock this driver at this time. Presently, RL-p18's and RL-i8's are slated for production. After those come through, I will see about modifying the RL-s Series drivers to allow them more versatile application implementation, with the goals of increasing efficiency, lowering the Q, and offering a lower impedance option on the coil.

RL-s12's are still available.

Well that's certainly nice to hear. About modifying the RL-s, I assume that it would take around a year till the new ones come out?

Re: RL-S 15"

I don't want to give any lead time estimates at this point. As quite a few people are aware, my supplier has had to move to a new (smaller) facility and is in the process of a major restructuring to their business model in order to stay competitive in today's rapidly changing marketplace. As I am still holding on delivery for the RL-p18's and RL-i8's, I must wait until those have arrived before I can even begin to speculate on production as far out as the RL-s Series drivers.

Let's just say, I wouldn't advocate holding your breath!
