| Re: SVS PB10-ISD (sealed) Since so many people had asked about plugging the port of the PB10-ISD, I had to test whether there were more positive than negative effects. Naturally the shape of the frequency response changes drastically, the -6 dB point shifts up to 32 Hz which is a good thing if your room has lots of low frequency room gain and the normal open port version causes a rising response towards the low end. Naturally the low frequency maximum output is also reduced by around 6 dB. Up higher the max output stays similar with the ported version. The amount of distortion goes slightly higher, especially at lower frequencies, which naturally isn’t a good thing. The group delay stays below the 1 cycle limit all the way down to the test limit at 15 Hz. The amount of ringing is also cut down, though one can still see the effect of a high pass filter at around 19 Hz which can’t be disabled. The artificially sealed PB10-ISD is a good option for those whose room has lots of low frequency room gain and who feel that the low end sounds a little bit too strong but don’t want to use any EQ to reduce it. + Good frequency response for smaller rooms - Lower deep bass maximum output compared to ported version - High distortion, especially above 40 Hz - No crossover | |||
