Dumb Question

I currently am using a PS3, Pioneer Elite VSX-01 and an Emotiva UPA-7 amp for blue ray watching. This system is set up as a 5.1 system. This past week I watched a couple pf movies that were 7.1 soundtracks, "Punisher" and "The Spirit" that did not give me a 5.1 set up option in the movies menu. To me the sound didn't seem right, it could have just been me. The receiver shows the 7.1 signal coming into it. My question is does the receiver convert it to 5.1 or should I be setting up my system in way to allow 5.1. Thanks!

I assume that if your system is set up as 5.1 it will down convert or up convert any signal to play it as 5.1...

Re: Dumb Question

The receiver will realize you have a 5.1 setup and modify the output accordingly. Make sure you have run the initial calibration of your receiver and verify that it is recognizing your setup as 5.1

Re: Dumb Question

The above posts are correct, your receiver will send the audio information that normally goes to the rear channels (the 6th and 7th channels) and will send them to the side channels.
