| Mits ws55819 convergence issues Hello all! I have a 55819 and as soon as the warranty ran out (figures) the convergence is off until it warms up or i give it a little kick. Even when it goes back to a better picture I have to go into advanced convergence and reallign the blue and the red. Sometimes I get the "bowtie" as well. I'm told it may just be the circuit board that needs soldering and I can handle some soldering but not buying a new tv after only 5 years. Thanks for any help! | |||

| Re: Mits ws55819 convergence issues You may need to simply resolder the connections on an output IC, or the chip could be intermittent internally. If the former is true and you keep running it without fixing it you will likely blow the IC anyway. These are routine repairs for a CRT based RPTV, just make sure that if you change the chip that you get an original SFS part, not a cheap knock-off. some servicers try to make big bucks on these repairs, but it should be no more than a 2 hour (possibly much less) job on site. Ask about rates before having a servicer come out if you don't DIY. | Re: Mits ws55819 convergence issues Sadly, this is a common problem with the Mits CRT RPTVs and is also showing up in other makes as well. As Leonard said, it is a matter of resoldering the connections on the convergence ICs. You can pay someone to come out and resolder them, or if you're handy you can do it yourself. There's a lot of info about this on another forum, and you can even find an illustrated guide on how to do the repairs yourself if you go to the right Spot PM me if you can't find what I'm talking about!---Royce--- "I never drink...wine..." | Re: Mits ws55819 convergence issues Let's put this in perspective. All CRT based RPTVs use convergence output ICs made by Sanyo. Various chips have varying reliability, and all of them run hot because of the nature of the circuits. They tend to develop solder cracks because of the thermal cycling. Some ICs just fail under the stress, and some fail due to the open circuits caused by the solder cracks. Some designs are worse than others about this. The Mitsubishi sets have actually been one of the more reliable sets in these regards, but all vendors have similar issues. In this series of Mitsubishi sets it is more common to have bad solder connections than bad ICs, but as with any sets, if you keep running it broken you can do more damage. As for the advice on other forums, be very careful. I monitor them and try to keep people from making mistakes, but a lot of the info is out of context and incomplete. If someone wants to DIY one of these, I suggest you post questions here and I will advise you as to whether you are taking the right course of action BEFORE you do so. I do this for a living and many of the posts you see are from other DIYers that don't have all of the info or experience that they need to give such advice. Some ot what I have sen is just plain bad advice. Bottom line is, I am not telling you not to search the other sites, as there is a lot of help out there, just check it out with me before screwing something up or using the wrong parts. There are updates to many of the chips, additional things to check on some sets, and lots of vendors selling inferior parts. | Re: Mits ws55819 convergence issues Hello Leonard, Can you give me some guideance on how to fix a convergence problem. Where is the circuit board that controls convergence and are cracks, if there are indeed cracks, noticable. Where can I find a repair manual. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Chris | |||

| Re: Mits ws55819 convergence issues The first 10 pages of this link are about as much guidance as I can give: http://www.hometheatershack.com/foru...html#post43725 "It is better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it." -Joseph Joubert Raise the bar. | |||
