Mitsubishi WS65907 Convergence Problems

I am having intermitent convergence problems with my Mitsubishi. I live in a remote area of Missouri, and the closest service center I have found is 120 miles away. He told me I would have to bring him the set and that it would cost $600 - $800 to fix it. He suggested I would be better of just replacing the unit. I am fairly handy (not a certified tech by any means) is there anything I can do myself to try to fix this?

I read several posts about resoldering the chips to the board and checking connections and fuses, but when I plugged the set and removed the back I could not determine the location of the convergence control circuit board.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to look very carefully for coolant leaks and check the solder connections on the convergence output ICs. These are the large chips on the largest heat sink in the set. See the information in the thread on convergence problems in the Manufacturers Service and Support forum.

I assume I will have to remove the circuit board to do this, are there any tricks to unplugging the ribbon connectors or any other potential land-mines I should know about? Thanks again for the help.

Lift the tinter board connectors evenly on both sides. Look carefully for coolant leaks and corrosion.
