| hello from CT USA hello all, just wanted to say hello to anyone who come on here so when i ask a question or 10 you might know who i am. I build cabinets in a wood shop for a living so my carpentry skills are better then most. i do not how ever build speakers for living and the majority of the information on this thread is over (way) my head. im hoping you can point me to a glossary of terms as there seems to be 10 abbreviations per paragragh. mtmm wtlls ? what in the world is that? when i was reading the rules of the place i thought they were a little on the obsesive/crazy side. but i have to say that lurking around for a bit now this seems to be one of the friendlier forums ive seen. ![]() my original goal was to build a HT set up but was kind of talked out of it by not only others but myself too. had i found this site first i might not have gone the route that i did. my budget was/is very limited so i picked up a set of polk R50 for the fronts, monitor 30's for the rear (well i havent actually bought them yet), and a csi25 for the center all from polk. i think that i will actually build the sub from scratch though. back to my original goal ![]() w/ the speakers that i bought i intented to make my own cabinets as my biggest complaint is the build quality/look of lower cost speakers. i did some searching for speakers designs i though were beautiful and found the 'Gamut's". lucky for me i just happened to find a couple of 5x10 sheets of zebra veneered mdf at my wood shop and the guy on the panel saw cut it up per my cut list and the boss told me to "get it outta here" ![]() so basically im gonna dissasemble the cabinets the speakers came in and build my own high quality ones. these are just samples of the finishes i thought of or just had laying around is more like it. im gonna go w/ one of the real light ones in this 1st photo i tried making the line in the cabinet like they did on the gamut but im really not feeling it. ![]() same thing in the 2nd but i thought briefly of making the line a much darker red (burgandy or so) and matching the speaker grilles to the red also. ![]() well anyway, im probably not supposed to go into all that here so i'll stop while im ahead. hpe to talk to you soon, michael | |||

| Re: hello from CT USA Hello Michael, Welcome to the Shack. If you have not yet purchased the speakers I'd suggest you wait. Give our DIY'ers a chance to point you in the right direction. If you can build the cabinets, they can help you pick the drivers and crossovers and you'll have a much better speaker than just pulling the guts out of a Polk. Mark | |||

| Re: hello from CT USA well i already have the fronts and center. all the talk of voice matching scared me away. that leads to another question. when i did a search for voice or timber matching, nothing came up in thread titles. am i using the system wrong? | |||
