New here and looking at getting new gear!

Hi, I am from IL. I am looking at buying a new LCD HDTV. Never had one, so this will be my first. I am also looking at a new receiver with HDMI inputs which will include the HD audio. My old Sony is crapping out. Someone said the relays are going.

I just bought the Toshiba HD-A2 for $75 at Wal-Mart and look to use it as an upconverting DVD player and to pick up the HD DVD titles when I see them cheap.

Bo

Hello Bo, Welcome aboard. Sounds like you and I are in a similar situation. Looking for a new LCD and waiting on an old (should a 4 year old HDTV be considered old?) Sony to die. I'm also very tempted by the inexpensive Toshiba HD-DVD players.

Mark

Re: New here and looking at getting new gear!

What is the opinions on the Harman Kardon HK AVR 146 receiver. I have heard that they are rated lower than they really produce. Kind of like the Marantz receivers in the 70's. This one have HDMI inputs and one output. It says video switching. I think that is different than pass thru. Correct? What I am thinking of buying is the LG 32LB4D LCD TV. It has 3 HDMI inputs. I figured inputting all HDMI into the TV, then routing the audio from the toslink to the receiver. Is there that much difference in the sound between DTS/5.1 and HDMI sound?

I have read the brochures and website of LG and it states this tv is 120hz. Others on video forums have stated it isn't. Anyone?

Bo
