A sorta New Guy...

I thought it about time I posted in the introduction section.

I’ve been into home/car audio for ~ 16 years and I’m 30 = severe addiction! My first system consisted of a CD player, a two channel receiver, and a subwoofer and speakers I built myself. As soon as I was old enough to drive all my focus changed to my cars/car audio systems – if you added up all the money that went into my various car systems I could easily afford a pair of Watt/Puppy Eights and still have money left over – scary that.
I really got into home audio when I actually got my own home (well condo, but close enough) and over the last few years I’ve assembled a reasonably competent home theater system that I enjoy daily.

The list:

Integra DTR-6.4
Denon DVD-3910
Athena AS-F1, AS-C1, AS-B2
Velodyne CHT-15
PSaudio Ultimate Outlet HC
Wired with Signal Cable Copper (I have nothing but praise for Frank, his products and his service – outstanding in every regard)
Totem Urth Power Block
Various Video Cables
Vibrapods Everywhere

And a plain old 27” Sony CRT.

And of course, I’m a Canadian .

Welcome again then... to the Shack!

That Denon 3910 sounds familiar.

Nice line up of stuff.... but I gotta ask... what is Vibrapods?

Oh… Vibrapods. They are worth every single penny. I have 26 of them under my receiver, DVD player, front speakers and subwoofer. Check them out @ http://www.vibrapod.com/ Don’t miss the review page .

Short synopsis:
Under front speakers… say good buy to the BOOM… my fronts are wayyyy too close to the front wall. Also, better imagining and deeper soundstage. Performers picked up some “air” around their image.
Under my subwoofer… helped with localization and also eliminated some of the “your subwoofer is in a box sound.” Both speakers and subwoofer are on 1 ¼” spiked mdf plates = isolation from the floor, i.e. my neighbours ceiling.
Under the receiver… resulted in some smoothing of the sound, a little more bass definition and extension, a little less hash in the treble.
Under the DVD player… locked in the image which before tended to wander a bit (it often sounded is though the singer was directly in front of me but standing facing the far right corner of the room). Also a significant improvement in bass extension. This was with my old DVD player, via its digital coax output. I haven’t experimented with them under the 3910 yet, I just put them under it immediately – I’ll play later.

I also have a set of four Vibrapod cones. Under my old DVD player they didn’t work well = harsh treble, hollow midrange. I’ll experiment with them under the 3910 tomorrow.

I also have 4 pairs of Totem Beaks – the improvements they’re responsible for are dramatic and I’ve actual gotten other – none crazy audiophile types to listen to the changes, Beak on/Beak off and feel very satisfied when they get that mouth open dumbfounded expression because they hear it too. I’ll blather about Beaks more later .
