| Hello from Italy! Hello, I'm a new member of this forum. I live in Italy and I'm an hi-fi entusiast since 80s. In the last years I've developed a hi-fi system that should be used even for home theater although it is mainly conceived for standard stereo hi-end reproduction. I started using commercial of the shelf appliances in the late 80s that were progressively replaced by devices developed and built by myself: now the only "off the shelf" item in my system is a SACD Player (DVD963SA). All other things (amplifiers, electronic crossovers, loudspeakers) have been developed and built entirely by me: I joined this philosophy after repeated unsatisfactory purchasing of both electronics and speakers. None of them were what I expected and almost none respected the specifications, so that I decided to provide by myself! I think that I was right and that the my current system is a good value for money compared to what the market offers. The current system is as follow: - Source DVD963SA - Pre-amplifier: custom build using a Luxman L1 chassis - Amplifiers: ..-2 x 4 way custom built amplifiers for front loudspeaker Driving (each one delivering 500Wrms 40-125Hz, 350Wrms 125-400Hz, 250Wrms 400-4500Hz, 150Wrms 4500-20kHz) ..-2 x 800Wrms custom modified NAD2200PE for Subwoofer driving - Electronic Crossovers: ..-2 x 4 Way inside each multichannel 4Way amplifier with specific speaker correction for the front speakers ..-1 x Subwoofer crossover with selectable hi-pass frequency, level, phase. Includes a Subsonic filter and a correction network to linearize the Subwoofer response. -Loudspeakers: ..-front firing: 4 way multiamplified. 2 x 10" long throw (40-125Hz) reflex loaded , 1x 10" composite cone SP loaded (125Hz-400Hz), 1 x 4" cone midrange SP loaded (400-4500Hz, Siare 16VR8), 1 x 1" Dome Tweeter (over 4500Hz, ScanSpeak D3004-660000) ..-Subwoofer: 6th order system 150+550liters enclosures, recently upgraded with 2x 15" Acoupower drivers, tuned @14Hz and @32Hz ( one of the Carlos Beltran's fabulous creations!). The alignement and the performances of the whole system both in developmental phase and during the in-room tuning has been performed using a signal analyzer developed (HW and SW) by me some years ago. It provides for signal generation (using a DDS Sythesis), Analysys (by means of FFT, Waterfall, Time domain energy decay esteem, THD, MOL), and speaker T/S automated parameters retreival. My favourite listenings are classic music (symphonic and organ in particular), crossover and soundtracks. My favourite labels among others are Telarc and Reference-Recordings. I expect to get new ideas from this forum and to share my modest experience with who may be interested. Luigi | |||

| Re: Hello from Italy! Jerome, the cabinet was equipped with two L18P200AK. This was a 18" Speaker built by RCF (Italy) designed for large subwoofers with good specs compared to its contemporary competitors. RCF discontinued the manufacturing of this item years ago and even the repair kit is now unavailable. Acoupower drivers largely overtake the L18P200 specs and, in spite of the high cost, this has been a great improvement in my setup! Suprisingly I didn't need any modifications to the cabinet other than adding two adaptors to make it possible installing the new 15" drivers in place of the old 18" ones. The 6th order system with these new drivers behave as I have built it for them! The frequency response it's nearly flat over the 14-32Hz range, that's the range I need to extend the response of the main loudspeakers. Luigi | |||
