| Hello from the Pacific Northwest Hi, I’m newly registered to Theater Shack. My name is Tom and I’m from Port Orchard, WA, undoubtedly older than your average member as I edge near my 78th year but still tinkering with audio and AV stuff. I began with crystal sets back in the days of the Great Depression and evolved through the many exciting phases of remarkable improvements in both recording and reproduction. In junior high school, I was able to have part time employment as a radio technician and also built a lot of vacuum tube projects. My first decent sound equipment consisted of a pair of Altec Lansing Voice of the Theater speakers, an Altec amplifier and a Benjamin Miracord turntable. That was in the 50s. After many exciting educational and vocational experiences offering travel over quite a bit of the world, I retired at 73 and settled somewhat into a more leisurely watching and listening mode. Recent equipment has included Denon 4802 AVR and 3910 deck, a Sharp ZVZ-9000 DLP front projector, 4 BG 520i mains and surround speakers, 2 BG 420i rear speakers, and a BG 220i center channel speakers (these are all Bohlender Graebener planar ribbon tweeter speakers), and a variety of unsatisfactory subwoofers. I have recently updated my equipment with a Panasonic PT-AE2000u 1080p LCD front projector, a Panasonic Blue Ray BD-30 disk player and an Onkyo SR875 AVR. These 3 pieces were purchased mainly because of 1080p requirements. Also, I recently constructed a DIY T-line subwoofer with 10”out of phase pp drivers powered by an old vintage Kenwood Basic M2 amplifier and headed by an Elemental Designs EQ.2 two channel parametric equalizer. I found the Shack forums on subwoofers, BFD and DSP parametric equalizer use, subwoofer calibration, and Room EQ Wizard especially good sources. There contributors have abundant expertise and offer help to other members so enthusiastically. | ||||
