New Guy

Well I signed up in order to get the RoomEQ stuff, but looks like a nice little community here. I'm a college sudent and long time member of Audioholics.com. Right now, I just have a stereo setup, but I'm moving up to home theater (anyone have a yamaha rx-v1400, 1500, or 2400 they want to sell me? ).

I also have a large interest in headphones (I have to, I share a room at school).

-Nick

Hi Nick and welcome to the Shack!

I think we have a few guys here that hang out at Audioholics too and I know we have several guys who are into headphones. Hopefully you find your stay here a pleasant one.

Hi Nick, welcome to the Shack!

I'll be looking forward to your posts regarding headphones. I've recently been hit by that bug as well.

Re: New Guy

Ditto that on headphones. Share with us as you find out more. I have not payed much attention to the headphone market in many years but have been considering getting some new ones.

Re: New Guy

Hey Nick
Headphones are also an interest of mine, hopefully we'll be able to start some
discussion about them.

Re: New Guy

Seems like lots of headphone interest around here! Good to hear. I enjoy perusing the headfi forums, but I feel as though there is a lot of audio myth and false information on them and don't always know how trustworthy the posts are. always great to have another source of discussion!

Re: New Guy

Thanks for the reply in the CD section. I'll certainly have to consider your suggestion.

As for the whole headphone amp thing, i dont buy into it. I know in some cases it's helpful, but i've always just used my receivers/integrated amps and they've all sounded more than adequate. I did actually a xenos 3ha and i heard no difference between it and the 15 year old kenwood receiver i had been using. however, if i was running directly from a soundcard or mp3 player and have no other amplification, i would definately get one.

let us know when you start your search!

Re: New Guy

I use headphones at work (AKG K701) and my workstation soundcard needs help to drive them. I use a HeadRoom Micro Amp, and it does great. On the other hand I had a Micro DAC for a while and it didn't make much difference, so I sold it.

Re: New Guy

How are you enjoying your k701s? I love mine to death. They're the first headphone that gave me any kind of significant soundstage/imaging (of course still not as good as speakers).
