The Newest Newbie

Hey All,

I've been fascinated with home audio since I bought my first Kenwood system at Sound of Music (now know as Best Buy) here in Minneapolis. Now that I've finally moved into the 21st Century, I am building my 1st Home Theater for my family to enjoy, and to make certain my kids are bringing their friends HERE for innocent fun as opposed to the alternative!

I'm starting with the following:
Denon 4308ci
Optoma HD70 projector
Elemental Designs 7.1 Custom Speakers
eDesigns A7s 1300w Sub
(I haven't figured out how to post pictures yet!)

I would love any advice on where to start reading and any recommended resource of info on how to calibrate for best sound.

I found Elemental Designs and they custom built 'in cabinet' speakers for my 15' x 25' room. I struggle with room acoustics as I have a beautiful tin suspended ceiling, which, as you can imagine, is a struggle for sound reflection.

So! Here I am. Say HI, give me some advice on where to start on my journey to the perfect setup!

Dave Jake

Hi Dave , Welcome to the Shack. My first "real" system was also Kenwood, bought it in the early '80's. Now-a-days I'm running Denon and RBH, though I do still have a Kenwood system in the garage

Hi Dave, welcome. Definitely take a look at that posting pics FAQ Mike posted. Would love to see a thread with some pics on those custom speakers from the boys in Iowa.

Re: The Newest Newbie

Hi Tan,

Definitely check out the acoustics forum. Short version is that the most prescribed method is dead front wall, Mid-high absorption at First reflections on sides and ceiling, and Plenty of Bass trapping. But, your particular situation may warrant a different approach. Read up in the acoustics forum, and then, if you still have questions or want specific advice, post a thread of your own.
