Thumbs up Hello from Texas

Hello all,
I found your site while searching for DIY projects for a living area/media center.

What I have:
Onkyo HT-S760 6.1-Channel Receiver and Speaker Package with HT-R510 receiver
Onkyo DV-CP701 CD

old RPTV - out with the old

To purchase: in with the new
Samsung HL67A750 67-Inch 1080p LED Powered DLP HDTV 15.5" depth
Samsung - Blu-ray High-Definition Disc Player with 1080p Output Model: BD-P2550
EyeOne Display 2 with CalMAN Standard Software for calibration
Cannon VIXIA HF100 flash vidcam
Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro Pack - good reviews on edited AVCHD

I did look at the new Plasma and LCD, but decided on LED DLP.

Plasma dis-likes:
-power consumption
-heat 58" and 60" felt very warm in store displays. I read that after Calibration it's not as hot, but still warm
-i am just not liking the plasma for some reason

LCD- dis-likes:
size/price
120hz still is not enough for fast movement

I am really not looking to debate the above, those are just my personal feelings.

DLPs new LED has no bulb to go out, no color wheel for noise. Size/Price

What I hope to find are DIY project ideas:
-how to cover windows to block all light.
(I have my own and would like to post them to hear what others think)
-how I can semi-hide the entertainment center with some kind of curtain or something.
I have seen where an upside down box in built wider than TV and mounted to wall just above.
The curtains are hanging inside the box.
But that is mainly for screens and flat panels, not 15.5" wide RPTV.

I will search around the threads to find the best spot to post my images and questions.

Welcome to the forum ...

There's a lot of information here, my suggestion is to start threads in different areas according to your questions (Design and construction, Accoustics and DIY projects ...just to mention a few )

Thanks for the Welcome..

Thanks for the advice on posts Salvasol.

Mike P. , that's good to hear from a member so soon.

I have read great reviews on the set.

Did you like the settings out of the box or did you get it Calibrated?

I bought the HLS6767 almost two years ago ...the first thing I did was to calibrate everything with the help of some members. You can use any DVD that has the THX optimizer to start (Jurassic Park, Star Wars for example); and when you have a chance you can get AVIA or DVE disc to fine tune the TV, but THX will be fine ....
