Hi all.
Name's Kirby. 60 y.o. married man from Ohio. Retired firefighter and now, a woodworker by trade.
Had my first taste of audio back in the seventies when my older brothers all had nice stereos and even 4 channel that I lusted after(but wouldn't ever be allowed to touch!). When leaving the Air Force, bought my first serious system from the BX, with JVC, then Yamaha receivers, Pioneer, then Marantz speakers. Later, graduated to a B&O turntable and eventually found CD in an effort to eliminate all the background hiss and ticks and pops of analog LPs. (Bought the first Magnavox FD100sl the day they came out). My first higher end system consisted of an NAD amp driving MB Quart speakers, which were really good for the money and still kick nice music at a friends house 30 years later. I just replaced a woofer in that speaker a few months ago.
After many, many different iterations of systems, my current stereo system consists of a Krell pre-pro home theater preamp driving a Marantz power amp into my home built North Creek Audio speakers, along with an Audio Concepts 12" sub, also home built. I've built many speaker cabinets for other enthusiasts over the years, mostly for a Scan Speak kit that sounded really sweet.
My living room(WAF accepted) theater system uses a Denon receiver driving a pair of B&W CM 5s and a cheap sub, which I'm ready to replace with something I'd like to build.
I'm looking forward to getting more info from here, as everyone seems a lot friendlier than sites I've visited in the past. Been using REW to help tune the two channel system lately with great success. Was really surprised to see(and hear) where my sub sounds the best-right next to my my LP, with my mains only a few feet in front of me. It's really starting to sound great and I think I can still get better imaging and soundstage with more tweaking.
I'd like to say thanks to all the contributors I've learned from already and for future help. This is how this passion should be approached, I think-not too much personal judgment. I'll attach some pics of various projects as I find them.
