Hello

Just thought I'd say hello from Northern Utah.
Been in and out of this hobby for many years,.... and one of these days I'm gonna stop buying stuff and whittle my collection of 5 different 5.1 systems down to,.... um ,.... maybe 3.

Hello Nova... welcome to the Shack!

How in the world do you listen to five systems at one time?

Re: Hello

Well I don't,....But I probably would if I could
One is set up on my computer system.
The second is out in the garage,... only use it in stereo while working on the toys ('68 Chevy II SS and an '87 Turbocharged Buick Regal)
the third is set up for the kids' tv and Playstation
forth is in the bedroom
and then the main system in the basement.

Re: Hello

Welcome Nova!
And if you need help unloading those 5.1 systems I have no problem taking delivery J/k
I am more than interested in finding out what you've learned about each system and their differences etc..I've only owned one system thus far and as WAF becomes a factor after I graduate i'll need to keep it this way! I'll live vicariously through your many HT experiences, hehe. Welcome aboard

If you don't have a BFD for your sub, get one fast!
If you don't have REW, get it now!

Re: Hello

Don't plan to unload any of them, though sometimes I do wonder why I have so many

What I learned,....well here are a few little items.

Bookshelf systems (as in all-in-one) generally seem to produce muddy bass no matter the room treatments or placement and the speakers tend to color the music,.. a lot.

I have also discovered Kenwood produced a few good HTiB, not great, but for the money the 503 and 505 HTiB could do a respectable job.

Um,... SPL meter and a good set-up disk are well worth the money.

RBH speakers generally have a very good WAF.

Lets see,... Sony DE recievers get really, really HOT when they try to push 4 ohm loads

Monitor Audio Silver 5i made for an awesome nearfield speaker when I hooked them up to an amp and used them for my computer speakers.

Lots of other stuff,.... any specific questions?

Re: Hello

What is your stance on WPC ratings of your receivers? Do you find that a receiver rated at a higher WPC really provides more headroom? (with the same speakers)
