| Greetings from UK Hi folks, This is me in mugshot mode: Me Optimized 2.JPG Bit of a passport photo, that one... Glad to join you all - I'm building/have built a 5.1 system with Linn kit, and I'm getting interested in room tuning, bass traps, and all that stuff (it sounds a bit cheaper than buying more hardware). Current system (all in black, except TiVo & Sky+): Linn Unidisc SC - CD/DVD/SACD/MP3 + Pre amp Linn Pekin - tuner Linn AV5125 - 5 channel amp Linn Akurate 212 - fronts Linn Trikan - centre Linn Katans - rear Linn Afekt - sub Loewe Aconda 32" CRT Loewe VCR SqueezeBox Sennheiser 650 headphones TiVo Sky+ Old Technics record deck Old Technics casette deck I've still got the Linn Classik Movie Di that I upgraded from - it's also black. I don't think I'll get much more use from it, so I'm open to offers within the UK. The next job is to go active with the Akurate 212s, and/or replace the Trikan centre and/or Afekt sub. Then think about HD - trouble is, the Loewe has such a good picture I'm loath to replace it with a flatscreen... Ah well, I'll burn that bridge when I come to it Dave | |||

soon... one day soon... one day... ![]() This is the Initial 'Test it an see if it all works together' configuration: Initial Test Setup.jpg Loewe VCR sideways on by the side of the TV, SqueezeBox on the other side, Classik Movie Di (not in use) sitting on sub; in cabinet: AV 5125 amp top left, TiVo bottom left, Unidisc SC top right, Sky+ & Sky bottom right; under right speaker: 6-way AV switch, Pekin tuner, Hitachi HT-5500 Mk II tuner (for comparison). The Hitachi HT-5500 Mk II tuner is also surplus to requirements now, so I'm open to offers. The rears are a pair of Katans, due to be rewired with QED Silver Anniversary cable: Katan Rear 1.jpg It all works OK now, so there's just some rearranging and rewiring to do before moving on... | Re: Greetings from UK Welcome Dave, I've started to work from home and pieced together some old kit (B&W speakers, Marantz amp and Lua cdp) into a background system. I started looking at combined CD/HD/Internet radio systems - finished up ordering a Squeezebox. Looking forward to listening to the BBC through this system when it arrives! | |||

| Re: Greetings from UK You'll find the Squeezebox sounds surprisingly good with internet radio, and excellent with a good bandwidth station (e.g. Paradise Radio). For most BBC stations you'll need the AlienBBC plug-in. The only drawback I find is that run wireless, the Squeezebox can occasionally suffer from drop-outs - not Squeezebox's fault, just wireless networking fallibility. Probably best run via a dedicated server and something like HomePlug mains ring Ethernet. | |||
