Hello everyone, my name is Peter and I'm a bassoholic.
After blowing up a pair of JBL 2245H 18" drivers in dual 375 liter enclosures twice, I decided to kick it up a couple of notches, and got me a pair of TC PA-5000s. Here's one of them next to one of the blown 2245s:
TC Sounds assured me that I won't be able to blow these up. I hope they're right given what a pair of them set me back.
Anyway, I also picked up a 1124, downloaded REW and dusted off my trusty analog Radio Shack SPL. I think I came to the right place!
Here's a shot of the equipment racks behind the HT room. Each PA-5000 is being driven by a Crown CE-2000 in bridged mode. That works out to 1950W per driver and just around 128dB accoustical outbut from the subs alone. I don't anticipate having any issues with faithfully reproducing the bottom octave any longer.
Here's how a single PA-5000 models with a 17Hz tune in my enclosure:
Add 6dB for the second sub.
So my quest now is to tame these 18" beasts using REW and the BFD. I hope to do my baseline measurements tonight. I'm all ready to go:
The subs are hiding behind that black felt cover behind the left front speaker:
Running the BFD in by-pass, I'm already hearing (and feeling) much more effortless bass than I had before. The amazing thing is that my mains (Klipsch KLF-30's driven by an Adcom GFA-5500 with the clipping LEDs blinking) runs out of steem before these drivers even brake a sweat!
