Hi From Maidstone UK

Hi guys 'n' gals. I'm Doug, A pro recording engineer, and for my sins spend my life lugging protools and old Neve channels around the country side. I'm new to this forum game and stumbled across "HTS" looking for some tools to shoot a room. I look forward to some inspired discourse on acoustics and the state of the music/film industry.

Re: Hi From Maidstone UK

Thanks for the welcome guys. I should 'fess up and admit to being a bit allergic to home cinema or more specifically 5.1. I am of the opinion that 4.0 would be an ideal format. (quad for those old enough to remember)(too old for me too).but that requires that people have full range well placed rear speakers. Not so easy in practice, but it would mean that imbalanced speakers would only shift the image centre, not alter the balance,as happens in 5.1 when vocals etc are placed in the centre channel.Although bass management is still an issue. I want to make a folk record, where there are 4 musicians and each instrument is is its own speaker, and when you stand in the middle, you hear the mix, but if you stand by one speaker you hear just that guy. That would be cool.anyway I've said too much already..........
