| Hello from the Midwest Hi folks, just wanted to drop a note to introduce myself. I built a house just over four years ago, almost immediately I started on my cave in the basement. Never had a clue as to what I was doing. The room still isn't finished, but it'll give you a good idea of my final intensions. It has gone through a few incarnations, #1 was originally a 100% home theater room. Oh yea, 7.1 the "whole 9 yards", or so I thought. #2 started about one year ago in my search for a DIY sub project, I ran across a forum full of a bunch of guys that still play with tubes, and high eff. drivers. Well, they started me down the path of "audiophile". I hadn't heard that term until then. Soooo, they've 'sucked me in'. ..That's when I learned exactly what that 88db meant on my drivers. Now my drivers are 96db. Told me a bunch of things I was doing wrong, bla bla bla. I changed my system to 5.1, then 3.1..... This leads me to where I'm at now. The next incarnation of my system. #3 High db drivers on Open Baffle. Absolutely the best my system has ever sounded. Hopefully I can get a little HT discussion going here and there, maybe jump in occasionally, if you Shacksters don't mind. If all goes well, we can all learn from each other. Might even meet a few framiliar faces too. You folks have the coolest smilies too! I love this one.... Thanks for reading Bob p.s. Somewhere in here, profile, avatar, signature..... I've got a link to some pictures,... But I seem to have misplaced the little clicky button. Last edited by Bob in St. Louis; 10-24-06 at 10:30 PM. | |||

| | Re: Hello from the Midwest Hello Bob and welcome to the Shack! Glad we finally got you all fixed up... AOL is giving us headaches. You still may not get email notices on replies. Now it sounds like you mighta been hangin' around some Hawthorne guy. You'll have to show us some pics of your room and system. We have the tag inserts. | |||

| | Re: Hello from the Midwest Just another Welcome to the Shack! Glad to see you here. I can't wait to see pictures of your systems, especially you open baffle speakers. I've seen them before (Orion's and the ones from Jamo), but haven't actually heard them. I hope to hear your impressions and benefits/shortcomings of the design. JCD | |||

| Re: Hello from the Midwest Yea Sonnie, I didn't get email notification about those two posts. However, I haven't played with my profile/preferences yet either. I may not have it turned on yet? Until I get my profile all 'purdy' lookin, here's a link to my photos. Yes, Hawthorne and Deckert have, "shown me the way". I think "that Hawthorne fellows" products are on page two of my pics. Thanks for the reply and interest guys! http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/...49522535hKJQbw Bob p.s. By the way, that Hawthorne fellow has provided me with a level of customer service I've NEVER seen before. Did I mention his driver RULES! | |||

| Re: Hello from the Midwest JCD, a decent idea for the time being. Thank you. Sonnie, for $25 or so a month, AOL should be kissing my... (well, I'm new here, I won't say it), NOT being a thorn in my, your, or anyone's side. Bob EDIT: I have had the same problems with AOL on "AudioCircle".com too. | |||

| Re: Hello from the Midwest Sonnie, sorry...no notification. Eddie, thanks but my area was (barely) missed by the bad stuff. In some sick way I was ALMOST looking foreward to firing up the new generator I bought due to the past TWO power outages. Bob | |||

| Re: Hello from the Midwest prof, Hello and thank you for the welcome. I'm currently working on getting individual pictures to display here. I've had a hard time with my web/pic hosting site on some forums (this apparently is one). The "[img][/img]" thing doesn't work with webshots.com. All my pics (for now at least) are in my signature. Sorry for sending you away to see them, I'd love to bring them here. I love my OB rig. Absolutely wonderful. Do you have any questions in particular? Normally I'd ramble on about them but it's getting just late enough here that my eyelids are getting in the way of the screen. LOL EDIT: Here's the "behind the scenes" of OB. Which has already changed slightly from the picture; http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/...85868784KHLiPm Mike, it's coming....About an inch so far. They're calling for 4" - 5" total. (not enough for me!) Night guys. See you in the morning. Bob | |||

| | Re: Hello from the Midwest Hey Bob... you can upload those images to our Home Theater Photos area. Once you get them uploaded you can go to the image and there will be a link there you can copy and paste using the button. You might start a new thread in DIY showing us all your open baffle stuff. Since I first met Darrel I've been intrigued by the OB design and I've been tempted to give it a try one day. | |||

| Re: Hello from the Midwest Good idea Sonnie, I've had a few folks ask in a couple different threads about the OB's. I think I'll put some pics in the gallery and maybe a little story. Mike, we only ended up with about an inch of snow. Bob | |||

| | Re: Hello from the Midwest Bob, That baffle board looks incredibly small for that size speaker... I remember that one of the reasons they never were popular was because of the size that the baffle board needed to be to cancel the front wave... I would like to hear your take on this, but we should probably continue this discussion in the DIY section.. | |||

| Re: Hello from the Midwest Hi prof. I get very good bass with that sized baffle actually, I'm very happy with it. I'm in the middle of writing a little story on the past and present regarding the OB in my room. If all goes well today at work, I'll have enough time to finish it and post in the DIY Speaker forum. I thought I had it finished but then proofread it. But it wasn't what I was looking for, so I'm 're-doing it' a little. Thanks Bob | |||
