Hi from another Aussie

Hi all,

I, too, found this site via the Room EQ Wizard page. Been enjoying some reasonable quality gear for around 18 years, just bought some new floor-standing speakers and a centre speaker in preparation for a HT setup. Am having massive problems with standing waves tho, likely because of the better specs of my new speakers, so I've been doing a fair bit of research into the subject. Don't have a surround receiver/processor yet, will need to research that too !

Have just bought myself an SPL meter and will make a cable up for the PC this weekend... time to get to learn how to use that software. I expect I might be firing off a few questions about it all in the near future, but I'm sure I'm in the right place when it comes to finding answers...

Regards,
Gary

Hi Gary and welcome to the Shack!

No doubt you will find plenty of quality help around here...

So what kind of speakers did you buy?

I sure hope so.. methinks I'll be needing it. As funds are limited, my loungeroom is small and a really bad layout, I believe it's going to be quite a challenge... not necessarily one that I'm looking forward to..

My recent purchase is..

Whatmough M30 mains
Whatmough M5 centre

.. adding to my original gear..

Richter Merlins (the originals, not the "MkII"s)
NAD 3240PE Integrated amplifier
NAD 6220 Cassette Deck
NAD 5320 CD player.

.. plus..

1 cheap 'n' nasty DivX/XviD capable DVD player.
1 dying JVC VHS video recorder.

I expect these Aussie-made speakers wouldn't be too well known overseas, tho.

So, nothing too exciting for "died-in-the-wool" audiophiles, but I've enjoyed the wonderful performance of my hi-fi equipment for 18 yrs so far, and it's still going strong... and I believe that's what it's all about...

I must say tho, that extra "r" is ironically reminding me of the standing waves I'm now trying to deal with in my loungeroom... there's more there than I'd prefer...

1 "r" & no "z"s will do nicely...

Gary,

Sorry about that...My hand must have been shaking with excitement, that another Aussie had joined us, and I accidently hit the "r" twice.!! ..

I've sure never heard of those speakers before, but they look impressive.

Now this is a funky looking tweeter...

That's the Madonna edition. They're only sold in pairs
