| Newbie to the "Shack" Hello! I've been a lurker at this and several other sites, but decided to take the plunge with membership here. I live in Plainfield, Illinois (far SW burbs of Chicago). I'm an enthusiast with a pauper's budget. I enjoy learning about this hobby, even though I don't have the ability to do constant upgrades. My setup is also my family's primary viewing center. It consists of a Sony SXRD 50" 1080p TV. My sound comes from a very old ES series sony. It's pro-logic, which was state of the art at the time! I need to upgrade in the next year or so. My speakers are Bose 401 series 2. And I know, Bose blows. The speakers are about 16 years old. I bought them before the advent of great sites like this one. I now know I can (and eventually will) do much better for less money. They work for now. I use a couple of small Polks for surround, and center is set to phantom mode. Again, its only pro-logic and not digital. I also have an Xbox and Xbox 360, and have been a Live member since its launch. Anyway, I plan on finishing my basement over the course of the next year to 18 months, and am planning for a projector, new reciever, and much better speakers in a 5.1 setup. That's about it. I'm glad to be here! | ||||

| Re: Newbie to the "Shack" Hello Chris, welcome. Not all Bose speakers are bad, I have some 601's that I bought in '87 that are pretty good (even though they are very laid back to my ears), it seems to be the new stuff with bass modules that really have a bad rep. Mark | ||||
