About Me

Hi there,
I have been a member for a while and have not participated. I just recieved an email urging me to do so. Here goes:I am a professional sound guy. I work at large in the Reno Tahoe area mixing bands and lots of corporate events. I also have been working on some commercial installations and am pretty certain that is where my career is headed. I joined this forum mostly to play with Room EQ Wizard. I actually never really have gotten around to playing with it much. I own and use Smaart, which is a dual fft program that is very useful for tuning rooms, setting delay speakers etc. I am extremely opinionated about the subject of audio and acoustics. I do not watch television ever, and I rent a video about once a month. On the other hand I love music and listen to it constantly. I say two good solid wood speakers with a nice tube preamps or amplifier beats all. Surround processing is, in my opinion, the best way to make music unlistenable. I don't think cd's sound as good as vinyl, don't even ask me about mp3's, and I have a collection of 180 gram vinyl. Vinyl is the best format when properly mastered. Ok I take that back, 2 inch tape at 30 ips would be my opinion of the best format. My "Home Theater" consists of a pair of 26 year old Bang and Olefsun 4 way cabinets that I pulled the crossover out of. They are now quad amped using a bss crossover. I also replaced the lf driver, with a better one I ordered from EAW. These are powered by crest and crown. I know next to nothing about the products that are used in modern home theatres. Furthermore, if I can't control the gain structure at every step, I am going to hate it. On top of that, I like good old fashioned parametric equalisation, the british kind that totally colors the sound and has phase issues! To make a long story short, I am basically the last person on earth who should be allowed on a Home Theatre forum.

Hi matto and welcome to the Shack!

We're glad you decided to stop in and chat with us. Actually we are not 100% home theater contained and we have several guys who will probably understand your enthusiasm about two channel and vinyl.

Hi matto,

Welcome! Would love to see some pictures of your setup. I'm into both HT and 2-ch, and have a little vinyl. I love all of it!
