| Some more thunder from down under Hi everybody I am currently a First year university student studying at Adelaide uni, despite my full time commitments most of my time is spent studying Audio forums and constructing speakers. So far i have built 3 subs and two full range speakers. My main passion is subwoofers for home theater (and pro sound). I refuse to watch movies if the walls are not rattling, i do not even go to the cinemas anymore because they fail to reproduce the LFE with enough impact 4 18inch cinema subs is what i would run in my HT room not a 500 seat cinema My nest project is going to be a LLT vented 15 (maybe two) however finding drivers in Austalia is very hard and shipping from the states kill that idea (with a uni student budget)In Australia Home Theater components are VERY EXPENSIVE for example Klipsh's sell a 12 inch sub with a 400 Watt amp which retails for $3,999 here in Australian Although it does sound impressive i cannot and wouldn't pay that much. This is the main reason i decided to start building my own subs. Currently i have a cheap Venom (no name chinese speaker) in a 150L vented enclosure running of a 350 watt RMS plate amp. In comparison with some projects here it would not even rate but many friends parrents have $1,000 10 inch subs (that are pathetic in comparison) love mine. Following my discovery of the BFD guide i have decided to buy a BFD (i'm waiting for it to arrive ) with the intention of flattening the subs response. Anyway i look forward to positivily contributing to the forum in as many ways as i can, Thank you for providing such a great Audio visual Forum Thank you to everyone who make the Home Theater Shack happen ![]() | |||

| Re: Some more thunder from down under Welcome Sam. "Sounds" like you'll be a welcome addition to the audio threads around here! (Sorry couldn't resist). Seriously, you build your own subs and like to make the walls rattle... Rock on, dude. And again, Welcome. Mark Santora | |||

| | Re: Some more thunder from down under Hi Sam and welcome from another Adelaidean....Although I've now moved to the south east.. I know what you mean about prices down here and availability..Couldn't even find a decent 12" driver without paying over $350.00 for it, and anything bigger....forget about it.. Anyway I'll be interested to hear what you come up with.. | |||
