Thumbs up Hello from Liverpool UK

Hello folks,

Just arrived here pursuing software to highlight the uncharacteristics in my control room!

My setup is a home sound studio based around ProTools LE7, Mac G5, Tannoy Gold monitors and various keys.

The control room is basically a rectangular box, and untreated acoustically it makes for a difficult mix.

Fred

Welcome to the Shack Fred. The R.E.W. software will help tame your acoustics. Enjoy!

Re: Hello from Liverpool UK

Hi Mike Sonnie Geoff Willy

Many thanks for the welcome all.

I've only had a brief visit to a couple of items which caught the eye - but an interesting comment was on the effect/or not of an arched ceiling on room acoustics ... which I have.

The rise (in a 10'9" by 9' room) is from 7'9" up to 9'6", and I would have guessed (uneducated) that it would help a little in reflection dispersal - anyway I have some fibreglass waiting to treat different areas in this respect.

As the building is a breeze block out-house, I've had to plate the ceiling and walls and to install a wooden floor to keep out the weather, but I noticed a great acoustic room effect before I plated the back wall behind the speakers, and the wall was totally covered with fibreglass sheet. I've been wondering whether or not to frame the same wall with more sheet and cover with fabric - isn't this "live end/dead end" or vice versa.

Can anyone recommend any particular kind of fabric to contain fibreglass particles?

Perhaps I should already be in one of the discussion areas??

Fred

Re: Hello from Liverpool UK

Welcome fredmix.

It's great to see a fellow engineer.

I am looking to build and/or buy some good treatment implements as well.

As far as fabrick that will hold back the nasty fiber particles, I'll check exactly what my "Do-it-Yourself" home studio design book suggests.

I also run a recording studio and face many of the problems you must be facing.

I'd love to have you join in and start some discussion at the Audio Production and Editing Software forums.

Do you mix fully in-the-box or do you have a console?
