Hello from Chicago!

I've been an audio/video/home theater enthusiast since a youngster back in the 1970s. I clearly remember the chemical rush I use to feel when I use to turn on my stereo for the first time of the day while placing an album on the turntable and lowering the stylus. The sound of vinyl back then was so intoxicating. I didn't get into home theater technology until the early 1980s when I received my first VCR...even though it was mono. The MONO sound coming through my stereo speakers sounded good to me...and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. But, it wasn't until MTS Stereo came along, and I purchased my first MTS Stereo capable VCR, that I really got addicted...and after that, Dolby surround, and after that Pro-logic, and so on, and so on. I no longer get the rushes I use to get, but I still enjoy the technology. Sites like Home Theater Shack allows me to get my fix, so to speak, while also keeping up with the latest and newest home theater technology. Plus, I enjoy reading what's on the minds of other home theater enthusiasts here in the forums.

Welcome aboard. I have family in the Brookfield area up there (La Grange Pk. actually).

We'll do our best to get the thrill back for you, at least with the surround sound. Have you tried throwing money at the problem yet?

Hey there, thanks for the welcome. I'm familiar with Brookfield; I live in the city on the Northside area near Lakeview.

Nope, not yet. I'm somewhat frugal, and I want to pay off some credit card bills before making any big purchases. But I do plan on early next year purchasing a 50inch Panasonic plasma that I've had my eye on. But this battle between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray isn't really making me feel like there's a need to rush to purchase anything high definition related. It's a good thing there's free HD via over the air, because I'd wait even longer before purchasing a HD television.
