What's happening guys?

Just joined up today. Haven't really searched around the forum yet, but I'm just getting into home theater and am working on a nice little set-up for my room, which will hopefully get transfered to our game room once it gets finished. Like I said, I'm just getting into home theater, but I've been into car audio (current system kicks *** ), computers, cars, ATVs, and anything else that has a motor or is electronic :P. My g/f just bought my a cheap Phillips system for an early Christmas present. This one right here. First thing I noticed about this set-up is that the sub just flat out sucks. Looking into getting a HDTV next

Anyway, just introducing myself. I'm currently working on getting my Bachelors in Computer Engineering while possibly minoring in Mechanical.

Re: What's happening guys?

K. Got off the phone with my cousin a few minutes ago. He has a Radio Shack sub, he's going to give me. I don't know the model number or even if it's meant for home systems, but I'll take a look at it when I get home. He said it's 8Ohms and 150WRMS/300WP. BTW, it's 15"!! Anyone have that big of a woofer in their home system? I'm going to get the dimensions when I get home and get to work on a box.

I'm mainly using my system for DVD and X-Box 360. My current TV doesn't have audio outputs (the thing's about 10yrs old!), but it'll hopefully be upgraded soon. Any suggestions for some cheap sound improvements?

Re: What's happening guys?

Welcome to the Shack,.... yup, there are a few folks around here with 15" subs, and a few with 18" subs, and a few (like me) with dual 12" subs, and some with dual 15" and dual 18" not to mention what some of the guys with IB set-up have done

Before you get too carried away with your new box for the RS sub, check out the DIY Sub forum here at the Shack, you'll get all sorts of useful help and info there.

Was browsing the forum for a few hours after I posted that . Just got home and got the specs on the sub. Polypropylene cone, "Long-Throw" single voice coil, 150W/300W, 8Ohm impedence, 25Hz FAR. For the price (free), you can't beat it

I don't know...I'd like to pay a negative price for a good driver...

Imagine giving them a ten dollar bill and getting back like $600 as your change.
