| Re: Just Joined - So Hello to All Hello, I got the BFD (DSP1124P) and it is a nice product for sub EQ. But on my experience, the first thing to do is to get some mesurements with a software analyser like REW (Room EQ Wizard) and work on sub placement until you get a better response. Some little move will produce great improvments. After that you could use an EQ to fine tune your system. Do not try to get the perfect flat response using all the 12 filters, just work on the big peaks with 4 or 5 filters and you will get nice results. JP | |||

| Re: Just Joined - So Hello to All To the discussion about getting HT sound right, I've read that it is actually much easier in a home setting compared to a theater due to the smaller space. This especially applies to the low end, where one or two subwoofers can fill most home theaters whereas the cineplex usually has a very large room which is much more difficult to fill. Taken to the extreme, I've also heard that inside a car is the easiest place to control every aspect of the sound, and I've been in some cars that would seem to bear that out. (Not mine though, I prefer to be able to hear the sirens of emergency vehicles while I'm driving). In any event, I do have a decent sub in my home theater setup and it has made a big difference. I think the most important thing is that the sub be set up properly. Too many folks over-emphasize the low bass because they want to know it's there at all times, but a properly set up subwoofer will just sit there quietly until it is called upon to do something. At that point it should be more of sensation rather than a loud booming noise. Anyway, I realize your comments regarding subs were intended to stimulate debate, and it appears to be doing so. | |||

| Re: Just Joined - So Hello to All Hi. I'm just a begining amature at HT but I too have been reserching Realtime Analyzers and, after reading tons of reviews, I think I'm going to go with the Behringer DEQ2496. Seems like it's a good bang for the buck. for what it's worth, Darrell | |||

| Re: Just Joined - So Hello to All Not to get too far off topic on the OP's thread, but I wouldn't count on the RTA built into the DEQ2496, especially if you are primarily interested in subwoofer PEQ. REW is going to be much, much stronger as a frequency response analyzer. From there, the 1124 BFD is going to give you pretty much the same thing as the 2496. Anyway, there are several threads already on this, or we can start another in order to keep Eric's thread his own. Have a good night! -- Otto | |||

| Re: Just Joined - So Hello to All Hi Otto: You fellas have a momentum going, and I'm not going to break it; I'm stuck in reverse. Hell, I haven't even bought a sub yet (spent my money on a Pioneer RT-909 Open Reel). How do I sneak it in the house and disguise it so my wife doesn't realize the new acquisition? Eric G. | |||

| Re: Just Joined - So Hello to All Hi, The main thing in a HT is the setup. The balance between speakers needs to be in relationship to each other. I've heard $1000 systems that sound better than systems costing many times more because they weren't properly setup. Modern A/V receivers have some sort of this built in using it's own mic which calibrates different parameters for you. This works marginally well. You can also use test discs like Ovation's Avia, or Sound&Vision' Home Theater Tune-up using an anolog SPL meter when doing calibrations. There are lot's of references online in how to set your speaker placements in about any size or shape room. In my opinion a sub is a must. A true sub not a glorified woofer. In other words, a sub that extends to 20Hz or below, before rolling off. This is why I'm here to learn about using even better techniques, like REW and some sort of sub eq. I currently own a Behringer Ultra Curve Pro 24/96 with an ECM8000 mic and will be trying to find out if this will work for sub and or room eq. Hope this helps, Hoot | |||
