Bonjour from Reading, UK

Greetings everyone.

I stumbled across this very interesting forum as I was searching for how I could improve my HT sound.

I post on avforums and after buying a new amp which I'm very pleased with, I started to think how I could make my lounge sound better. I guess that a little work in placement of speakers, sound deadening, carpets, etc can make a much greater improvement than changing speakers, etc.

So I'll do some research, and looking at some photos of installs, I'll admit I'm a bit (very!) jealous of some of the custom DIY jobs people have been through. However, I still need to retain a "lounge" aspect so can't convert it exclusively for HT purposes.

Anyway, any suggestions where I should start?

Thanks already for what looks like a most friendly and informative AV forum

Welcome to the Shack, Xav.

Your desire to maintain a lounge aspect and make it sound great reminded me of Floyd Toole's white paper on loudspeaker and rooms. Link. He appreciates the fact that multichannel audio can free up the seating arrangements and create a more social environment if implemented properly. I agree completely. My living room is set up diagonally like the one shown on page 9.

We are the Shack. Existence as you know it is over.
We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own.
You will be mapped. Resistance is futile.

Re: Bonjour from Reading, UK

Gents, sorry for not replying sooner, have been very busy and about to go away for a week's holiday ballooning in Italy

Still, would appreciate your input. I'll post a few photos - it'll be more accurate than me trying to sketch my lounge!
