Hey guys,

In Phoenix, AZ, back in about 1974, I was probably in 9th or 10th grade, my father stopped to see a buddy of his at a little store. I got out of the car and tried to kill time by looking at all the junk. It was a flea market/pawn shop type of a place. The place was small and packed with stuff.

In a corner, snuggled underneath some shelving and behind an old non-working TV, I spotted two sets of stereo speakers, they were big (probably 30" tall). One set was significantly heavier than the other and looked nicer. I begged my dad to lend me the asking price but he couldn't see paying that much.....$40. He relented and I was thinking these had to make my capehart stereo sound better.

That they did! I had stumbled onto a pair of Wharfedales, 3 ways with 12" woofer, sand filled enclosures. SWEET!!

I had no idea what I had purchased at the time but coindidenially had started a subscribtion to Stereo Review about the same time which (pre internet) was one of the very few places to get information on our hobby.

I've been hooked every since.

Over the years it's mostly been a slow progression of upgrading on a shoe string budget. It's been a great deal of fun over the past 30 years to obtain this piece or that piece of equipment, each purchase improving the listening experience is subltle or sometime extraodionary ways.
