| New guy from Florida I'm completely new to this. I'm here because I want to build my own home theater subwoofer. I don't know anything about the subject - but I have a background in engineering (mech/mfg) and manufacturing. So what I don't know, I'll learn soon enough. I'm on a quest to build a better subwoofer than I can buy for approximately 1/2 the money. (not including my labor) Can't wait to get started. If anyone has any good info, please PM me. Otherwise, I'll be busy searching the sticky threads... Please to make you acquaintance(s). P.S. - I probably should have mentioned that I'm a die hard DIY'er - from cars, to firearms, to home projects - and even subwoofers. Hoping to meet others like myself. From what I've read so far, it shouldn't be any problem around here. ![]() | ||||

| Re: New guy from Florida Hi Solid, and welcome! By far the easiest home subwoofer you can build is an infinite baffle sub. This type of sub doesn't have a sealed box -- it uses the world as its baffle (hence the "infinite" bit) and the thing that separates the front from the back of the driver is your house. No box dimensions to worry about, etc etc, and by far the best bass you will ever hear. Check out the forum here. "Wychwood" has gone the way of the dodo -- but stay tuned for the new "Summerleas Road" website! | ||||

| Re: New guy from Florida Welcome to the Shack! There are many ways of accomplishing a HT sub. From sealed to ported to infinite baffle. Big, small, and average output up to the extreme. If you could tell us what your expectations are in sub output and what your budget is, it would be a good start. To get your feet wet, you can download WinISD, a modelling program, and play around with different sub designs. http://www.hometheatershack.com/foru...30-winisd.html Another good program is UniBox. http://www.hometheatershack.com/foru...31-unibox.html And to help you understand what the parameters mean. http://www.hometheatershack.com/foru...arameters.html If you have any questions, just ask. | ||||
