Hi. Jeff here. I am completely new to this field, I've been recently searching for places to learn about HT. I'm really at this point trying to learn to tie my shoes. The ABC's will come later. Then, maybe I can learn to count, then reading and writing... then if I'm picking up and still interested, I'll start adding and subtracting... then multiplying and dividing... and if I really pick up on it... maybe some day I'll be solving world peace.

I work in a government office with no windows and incompetent supervision, and ultimately just want out of here... at least someday. Sure the benefits are "fine".. but I'm not making enough money to pay for my kids' college, and there's been NO opportunity for advancement where I'm at. I've always wanted to run my own business, but have not had anything jump out at me that both interests me, and could support me and my family. My father has had his own antenna & satellite business for over 20 years, but is steadily getting butted out by DirecTV, DishNetwork and Cable... as well as his willingness to advance into higher-tech areas. Since I am extremely fascinated by all that he is not, I'm really interesting in learning everything there is to know about modern technology, advances in audio, video, etc, they may help me get into the business. That may be years away, but if nothing else, I'll be able to make more informed decisions on purchases in the future.

From reading just a few posts here. You all seem like a stand-up group of people that I could really get some reliable and honest opinions from. This is one of the first forums that I've been impressed from reading the rules section! And I really appreciate the dedication to keeping it clean and positive, because it can be really difficult to find the helpful information you need sometimes.

Re: New

Hi Jeff and welcome to the Shack!

Glad your first impressions have been positive... we always like to hear this.

We have to remember we got started somewhere and were newbies ourself. Heck, it's hard to master it all anyway, so we are constantly learning.

Confinement with no windows is only fun if it's a home theater room. Cheers to you finding something better for you and your family.

Look forward to hangin' out with ya.

Sonnie
