Hello from ground zero...

Sonnie and Home Theater Shack Forum:

It is refreshing to read the posts and learn from ground zero, which is where I am at as far as audio/video knowledge; perhaps below ground zero!
What I may have in common with all of you is an appreciation for superlative sound and video.

Remodeling provided the opportunity to upgrade our listening and viewing pleasure so the ancient Harman Kardon AVR 20, five Bose dbl. cubes and two Acoustimass speakers are retired to the garage. I am replacing the still "going strong" 36" Sony CRT with a 46" Sony LCD.

The "ancient" audio system is being replaced with four Boston VRi555 in-ceiling spkrs., Boston VRC center channel, Harman Kardon AVR 247, and I am currently looking for a good subwoofer for our 3380 cubic ft. listening/video area. I have spend hours researching what a "good" sub is and should sound like.
After reviewing the ubiquitous retail brands (Klipsch, Velodyne, Martin Logan...) I discovered what I thought was another world of superlative quality subs through this Forum and online research. The brands I am considering, which probably overshadow my new Boston speaker purchase, are the SVS SB12 plus or 25-31, and HSU VTF2 MK3. I am leaning toward the SVS SB12 plus because of the size and space limitations imposed by my better half. After reading Wayne A. Pflughaupt's fantastic review on the SB12 plus I was amazed at the sound quality in such a cavernous room. This review gave me hope that it would be adequate for my 3380 cubic ft. room even though this small sub is recommended for under 2500 cubic ft. spaces.

I hope to come to a definitive decision on the "best sub" for my application by reading and participating in this forum as well as introduce me to a new world of sound quality.

Thank you!
Gary

Re: Hello from ground zero...

Thanks to all for the warm welcome!

Thank you Sonnie for placing my "intro" in the right place. I am awkward in navigating this site so please bear with my mistakes.

I hope to describe my search for the right subwoofer and hope this forum may guide me to a qualitative decision.

Thanks again and glad to be aboard.

Gary
