Greetings from Louisiana

Greetings Home Theater Shackers. I just joined here & I am excited to be a part of the forum. I've been a longtime member of The Home Theater Forum (HTF) & AVS, so like most if not all here, LOVE Film, Home Theater & especially home theater popcorn. I'm currently about to purchase a new sub from SVS & that is how I came here.

I am a former owner of the discontinued PB12-ISD/2 subwoofer that while being the 'lowest' member of the SVS lineup, it more than satisfied us. In fact, there were times when I literally felt my pant legs moving. I donated that sub to a local children's home that I helped build up a theater room etc....Desparately needing a subwoofer, the ISD/2 actually sounded much better in that much larger room. Like way better!

So, now I am in the need for a new sub to complete the theater which is called Club Timobi Wan-Episode II. The original theater, Club Timobi Wan was closed down due to my moving in late 2006. When I vault from the steps of the new member status, I will provide a link for you to view the former nerdery, but fun room that was Club Timobi Wan. The record for the largest group that watched a film was 18 back in Sept. 2004. Mostly kids from the children's home where I worked & they just layed everywhere lol. It was ALOT of fun providing a nice getaway for the staff & kids there. I think I actually had a few convinced that I was a Jedi Knight! And yes, eventhough I am an old fart, I have major Star Wars issues.

The new Episode II version is much toned down in it's decor. Figured I should grow up a bit. Only a little though. But it does seem to have a MUCH higher female acceptance factor.

My current gear is...
Sony 1080p 'Pearl' Projector
Sony S500 Blu-ray
Toshiba HD-A35 HD-DVD
Comcast HD Cable
Polk Audio RT-6 Speakers (5)
Onkyo 805 THX-Ultra 2 receiver
& no sub.

I look forward to reading good info here and hopefully even share some myself.

See you on the forum!

Re: Greetings from Louisiana

Sounds great, although I wouldn't call that SVS the lowest of the line (I'd love to have one).

I'm sure we'll enjoy seeing your progress (pictures are always welcome), and there will be a lot of great folks on here who can give you some input on that build.

Listen to the Real HT Info Podcast at http://realht.info, or on iTunes.

Also, listen right here on The Home Theater Shack. Just use the web applet on the front page.

Re: Greetings from Louisiana

I agree that the sub was a champ but it was the bottom of the svs line. Still, it was awesome. I can only imagine how good the plus/ultra series must be.

My new room is really already completed as it's a dramatic difference that what I had. It's basically a living room with gear. So as far as constructing it, there wasn't much to it-especially compared to what I had before. On that one, I painted the walls & ceilings etc... Lots of work.

Here's a few pics of the former Club Timobi Wan.

Those screenshots were much better in person. Those were on my 2 generations ago Panasonic 480p projector. Since then, I've had a 720p Mitsubishi & now the 1080p Sony Pearl. The Pearl is fabulous.

Eventhough my new room is totally different & more 'normal' looking, I still want to call it Episode II.

When the new SVS sub arrives, I'll get the camera out to snap some new pics to share.

Oh, & thanks for the welcome too!

Re: Greetings from Louisiana

Welcome, Tim, from a Lousiana native, now in Gainesville. Glad to have you here to share your experiences with us.

Note that we have now begun moving vendors to the new pull down option at the top of the forum pages. You will find it between "Shack Shopping" and "Glossary". This will represent a great improvement in the vendor reference database, making it easier than ever to find what you are looking for.

Contact me with any suggested entries, category recommendations, or additional information about the vendors that we have. If you are a vendor and want your company listed, there is an option to provide us with the information.

Re: Greetings from Louisiana

Thanks for the very warm welcome guys!

And eventhough it's probably TOTAL overkill, I think I have decided to get 2 of the PB12 Plus/2 subs. One is surely enough but I am finding it difficult to avoid buying another while they are closing out. And hopefully by the late Fall, I'll be in a new home with a larger HT room...

At the very least, I'll be ordering one of these & unless I get a round of responsible thinking overnight, I'll get two.

I have issues.

Re: Greetings from Louisiana

Gotta give SVS credit...and from reading other consumers stories I am not alone in this. I was eager & willing to pull the plug on getting 2 of the PB 12 Plus/2's today but after talking to Eric we went with one. How many companies advise you to spend less?.....ZERO.

I can always order another later should I want to have my nearby grocery store feel the rumble as well.

Barring any issue, the sub should be here by Friday. I've lived with a subwoofer for years & I guess the reason I am so giddy is due to living without one for the past couple of months.
